"I was part of a booking for a work Christmas Dinner that I had arranged and sadly everyone was disappointed. Firstly, when we arrived we asked if we could wait at the bar, this was absolutely fine but almost every drink on their “Festive Cocktail menu” was either unavailable or the hostess would just state she didn’t know how to make them. Secondly, we sat at our table to have our starters, three of us had the crispy poached egg with asparagus. Only two of the poached eggs were runny (mine wasn’t), and the asparagus was very cold like it had just come out the fridge. With the mains there were numerous additional issues. The turkey was incredibly dry, the carrots were rock hard and the gravy tasted like Bisto (rather than proper gravy made from meat juices/wine etc). Only one person was given pigs in blankets with their meal as they had ordered an extra portion of them, yet those that didn’t were told that their Christmas dinner didn’t come with any (despite the fact that the original menu sent to me listed “pigs in blankets” as part of the roast – see attached). It seems they have since updated their website with a new menu and that is what caused a lot of confusion with staff, however I was sent this one to order from and specifically kept in contact to prevent a situation like this. Then I had food spilt all down my back and in my hair which was not the waitress’s fault, accidents do happen, but it did add insult to injury to an already frustrating meal. However, she was very apologetic and did offer me a free drink of my choice to compensate. Even more frustratingly, when the desserts came out there was so much confusion. The young man handed peoples plates saying they were brownies, yet if you see the menu we were given, there were no brownies, and they couldn’t tell me what it was he was giving us. I was then given a dessert that turned out to be my colleagues’ Christmas pudding but was told it was a sticky toffee pudding. The staff did not have a clue as to what they were giving us and stood around trying to guess. In the end, I had to literally deduce what was what based on the amount of desserts handed out and then tell them which desserts belonged to who. By this point I was completely fed up. The restaurant was absolutely empty except for us so there genuinely is no reason for such chaotic service so I would hate to see the standard of service when its busy. The cheesecake was not a cheesecake, it had a sponge base rather than a biscuit base (and the portion size was tiny), the sticky toffee pudding looked and had the same texture of a brownie, and the “fondant” was not a fondant at all and was not runny inside. The only positives were that there was not a big wait in between courses, the location was very beautiful and the service/ communication received prior to the booking (the two ladies at the reception) was very good. The lady at the end was quite efficient with allocating everyone a bill which did make paying easier too. However at £30-£35 per person (plus a 10% service charge automatically applied), I would without a doubt expect better service and better quality of food."

We took advantage of a deal on LivingSocial and paid an additional £30 to upgrade to a superior room. Unfortunately, I don't think they offer this option anymore.

I would rate the hotel grounds and restaurant with 5 stars. However, the rooms only deserve 1 star. The gardens were absolutely stunning and provided a lovely setting for a post-dinner stroll.

We happened to see this restaurant on FB thought it sounded good and as we wanted something a bit special for a celebration we decided to book. We were not disappointed. The food, service and surroundings were lovely.

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend brake . Paying extra we included two evening meals . £35 per person per night for two courses . The portions were measly and the food was bland , the wine was horrendously expensive as were any additions . For this reason we tried to not to eat at Guyers House the second evening but were unable to as the weekend package had already been paid for . Voir le carte

Made to feel very welcome on arrival. Tastefully decorated, perhaps a little tired looking but nice and clean. Sufficient selection of starters, mains and desserts on the menu. We all ordered the roast chicken, and we all agreed it was very nice and a good sized portion. Dessert was great, chocolate truffle with salted caramel ice cream, very tasty. Retired to the lounge after dinner and sat in front of the log burning fireplace with a drink. A very nice night out, we shall return.

I am writing a follow-up to our previous review about unauthorized charges on our bank account for services we did not receive at this hotel. We have requested an itemized bill but have not received a response from the manager, who no longer seems to care about this establishment. It would cost us more time and money to pursue this matter further, so we have decided to cut our losses and will not be returning to this hotel. I urge the owners to take notice of the negative reviews before this place deteriorates further. If you are looking for a pleasant hotel with good food, it is best to look elsewhere.

I don't normally write reviews but this place is perfect for constructive criticism that would turn a very nice Manor house into a fabulous experience. My wife and myself happen to go there via a dinning experience gift and this place was in a very nice location. Although we couldn't stay there due to no rooms available a very nice local bed and breakfast put us up. On arrival the Guyers Hotel is a large picturesque country building with ample parking and as its December a great Christmas vibe, the set festive menu was as expected with things like turkey and Christmas pudding to put you in the mood. Like I said this experience was a 3 course meal for 2 with champagne, now when you order cham... Voir le carte

Had dinner here on our first night whilst staying for 3 nights at The Guyers House. Absolutely no ambience! We whispered to each other, so everyone wouldn’t have to hear our conversation. Poor guy on his own trying to silently eat his burger. It was painfully silent in there! Extremely overpriced for very limited menu. Risotto over cooked and tasted like water, small serving. Wine extremely overpriced as well. On day two we tried to book in for dinner. Reluctantly returning, as we were part of a family wedding group staying at the Guyers House. We needed to join our family already booked at 6pm for 9 people, ahead of leaving on a bus to get to a pre wedding cocktail party) Reception would no...

I thought hard about whether to write this, as really, we should have complained properly at the time. But, there was no manager and we with friends on their ‘last night’ before returning to Australia and life is too short. Where to start… The person on the hotel reception seemed bored/ bemused when we asked our way to the restaurant. So we found our own way to the room, which was empty but for one silent family sat in the corner. There was zero energy and no staff in the room at 19.00 on a Saturday night. We went looking for one of two very young, slightly panicked waitresses. When we found her, she told us to sit ‘anywhere’. Again a warning sign of what was to come. The menu was short and...

"The Sign of the Angel is a wonderful restaurant Hotel in Lacock. Service The service was amazing, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, and made our meal so enjoyable as they were always there to serve us when needed. Food The menu was very well put together and something for everybody. We all ordered something different, I have to say all the food that arrived, was beautifully presented, and hard to pick, as we all had food, envy! Drinks There was a wide range of drinks on the menu for anybody wishing to have an alcoholic drink or something that is non alcoholic. We had a beautiful bottle of rosé wine that was from a local vineyard, it was lovely to see local businesses working together! Decor The decor of the restaurant and lounges is homely and inviting, suitable for a quick, get together, business meeting, birthday parties, or something a bit more formal. Prices Prices are very reasonable, especially when you take in consideration, the location and the service that we were lucky enough to receive. Lacock This small quaint village is the most beautiful destination to visit, it is somewhere that everybody should go to to see how beautiful are English country villages are, it is also very well located as it is so close to the city of Bath. I would highly recommend The Sign Of The Angel to anyone looking for a great meal with a venue and experience that you will not be disappointed with, I think next time we’ll end up staying in the hotel that is part of the restaurant and making an even longer trip out of it as we didn’t want to leave. Food drinks: The food was exquisite, with each dish presented like a work of art. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the textures were divine. The meal was truly a feast for the senses the wine from the local vineyard also helped add to the incredible flavours as well."

"We've often eaten here and had excellent food and service. Until this week. We booked for lunch and our waitress organised drinks very promptly before taking our order. I asked for scampi with a salad, avoiding chips and we also asked for garlic bread to share. When our food arrived, I had scampi and chips with a bowl of salad and no sign of the garlic bread. The waitress suddenly realised I hadn't ordered chips but I said that was OK as my husband would eat them. Despite reminding her about the garlic bread, it never arrived. Our waitress was quiet and efficient, and busy with new arrivals as the restaurant began to fill. We eventually decided it was pointless asking about the garlic bread and finished the meal with tiramisu. The bill duly arrived and in the absence of garlic bread, she offered to take off the service charge. We decided, as the majority of the meal had been fine, to ask for only half of it to be deducted. I think my main problem was with the manager. Although he was there, he didn't deal with any of this problem. He seemed to be fine with going around the tables and chatting to regular customers, but in the matter of the missing garlic bread and the chips I had not ordered, he left the waitress to deal with the problem and didn't even look at us when we left. In many places we have eaten, the manager will normally speak to customers and not leave his staff to face an unhappy diner. Popular eateries don't only rely on their food, their service is just as important, and unfortunately it felt as if no one really cared. Sadly we've eaten our last meal there and won't be coming back."
