"I've been there twice to eat. a tiny peeve is that the menu of the website is much more interesting than the actual menu that did not change between my visit, but the people who served us were just so beautiful. a guy has not only ours. picture taken on my handy when it was our high-time day when the bill came, they made the first round of drinks complementary as we celebrated. eating is really excellent, fresh, interesting and really nice cooked, no fancy things, simply nice gastro pub building and affordable, service was prompt and I felt that they wanted us to have a good time. for me to be in a building that originally dates back to the 13th century, is such a bonus, I think the pub should make more of it for us to story nerds. also beautiful outside area, for summer dinner and drink, beautiful large parking space, only tick for everything."

Couldn’t fault our evening at the Royal Oak. The festive menu was inventive and very different from the usual December offerings. A truly first class meal from a wonderful country pub. Thank you Royal Oak

I can't judge the royal oak high enough, fantastic building full of history, fabulous eating and the renter and his brother could be a master class on how to treat customers. Many thanks, since tonight was a real tasty bite....You should be proud.

I’ve lived in West Sussex for 30 years but only stumbled upon this gem of a local recently. It’s tucked away in a beautiful location, very peaceful, but a vibrant and buzzing pub nonetheless. A classic English boozer with great beer and great food, couldn’t...recommend it highly enough

This pub is a gem of a find and if anywhere near Henfield or Horsham go for a meal here. Food is delicious, hot and plentiful, a real treat. Open fire, wonderful atmosphere, oak beams, cosy. I go there to meet a friend, it is...half way between us and ideal for a good meal and catch up.

super pub with young friendly staff who make a very good job. we just wanted to have a light lunch, so we chose the pflugmann who was excellent. I saw the sausage masque also excellent, but the hut cake was sold out (as well as we had plans for dinner). the sheikh harveys comes directly from the barrel and is very good. a character pub with great charm certainly worth a visit!

Great welcome by Michael the landlord who opened up the separate Peacock Room for us with its roaring fire and together with his staff )gave...us a warm welcome.Lovely Sunday roast , followed by home made apple crumble and Harvey's beer. Based on some wonderful Sunday lunch reviews we decided to book a table and we’re not disappointed warm, welcoming with bags of rustic character. Food and service was superb and although no specific kids menu other than half size roasts the chef tailored the...menu slightly to include more Yorkshire puds and pigs in blankets. Sadly no ice cream for the kids so desserts didn’t really hit the spot but they brought some kids lollies which was a nice touch. Will definitely return but probably for an evening meal without the kids as menu more geared to adults only.

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
