"The food was delicious, the flavours, textures and portions were perfect. I had the duck to start (run don't walk), the pork main (WOW) and the apple and treacle tart to finish. My partner and I both had the pork belly which was melt in the mouth good, the combination of flavours from the pumpkin, butternut squash and the sauce were heavenly. The service was exceptional, Olivia and Emily were friendly and checked in on us enough to know we were being looked after without intruding on our meal. It's a small restaurant (approx 7 tables), the atmosphere was the perfect blend of busy but not crowded, with compliments to the chef floating in the air. We'll definitely be booking in advance (you have to) the next time we come to Whitby. "My friend and I were walking the Coast to Coast trail from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay for charity. Covering a distance of 192 miles, it was no easy feat. On our last day, June 4th, with approximately 3 miles to go and no options for breakfast along the way, we decided to stop at the Coast Cafe for a bite to eat as we were both famished. Arriving at 2:50pm, my friend requested a cheese and bacon burger only to be told that the kitchen was closing at 3:30pm and they were no longer serving food. We asked if we could at least get some coffee, to which they obliged. I noticed two sausage rolls on display and asked for them to be heated up. The server, who seemed disinterested and unwilling to assist, handed them to me cold. When I inquired if they could be heated, she reluctantly put them in the microwave for 30 seconds, barely warming them up. At this point, we decided to give up as we were exhausted from the 13 days of walking. The server could definitely benefit from some lessons in customer service. Sorry for the rant, but our experience at the Coast Cafe was far from satisfactory."

"I recently visited Sander's Yard bistro for the second time and it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant is located in a charming courtyard, the staff were attentive, the atmosphere was great, and the food was delicious. I ordered the vegan platter and was impressed with the fresh ingredients and attention to detail in preparation. There were plenty of vegetarian options available, including approximately five vegan choices. Sander's Yard bistro is now my top choice for dining in Whitby."

"I have Coeliac Disease so we chose this place for breakfast as they had an abundance of gluten free options and was only a short walk from our hotel. I’m so glad we did as the staff were very friendly and attentive. Quick service. It was lovely to see that they were a dog friendly cafe as well (they even have a dog menu!! which was a lovely bonus to see all the lovely dogs enjoying some breakfast as well. I had the gluten free “Eggs a la swamp” which was poached eggs with a gluten free ciabatta roll, smashed avocado and a roasted tomato sauce. My non-gf partner had Eggs Royale. It was absolutely delicious and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection! Unfortunately we aren’t local but if we are ever back in Whitby, we would definitely go back!"

"Great location in Whitby for fish and chips with sea views from most of the restaurant. We got there early and were seated within a few minutes though none of the window seats were free. Service was reasonably efficient if a little cold we were handed a menu as we entered and after a short delay our order was taken. Tea, bread and butter were arrived promptly but there was then a wait of about 30min for our meals. The food was good but not great and the portion of chips was downright stingy! Considering the cost of the meal which wasn't far off Magpie prices I'm afraid it really wasn't in the same league. So all in all okay fish and chips in a clean well located restaurant but not worth the money."
