"Went here after hearing it had recently been taken over by people who run another pub nearby which is always excellent. The pub itself is beautiful, fabulous beer garden and plenty of parking. We were however very disappointed with the food. I had the cod wellington which itself was tasty but the creamed potato was very cold, I’d also got the rosemary chips which seemed to have missed the rosemary. My daughter wanted plain steak and chips. She was very clear. It came out with all the trimmings on, so she sent back. Again it came out with garlic confit on the steak, she had to scrape it off as was embarrassing to return again, and we had finished our dinners by then. My main with fries was £29, and her 8oz ribeye steak at £28, so not cheap. My husband had a burger which was fine. Feel this place would be so much better sticking to traditional pub food, rather than trying to be a gastronomic pub, something it’s not living up to."

As soon as you walk into this pub you can see the work that has gone into making it beautiful. It's very dog friendly with treats and bowls of water offered every time. The food was beautiful, tasty and at a good price for the quality. Lovely outside garden tucked away from the pub and car park. Was a happy part of our holiday in this area. Voir le carte

The pub staff were great , they managed a group of 10 Ladies, we had ordered in advance . The whole visit was very pleasant, comfortable and well managed. We had a nice table area to the side, it was cosy and comfortable. Well done. Only comment/negative was the desserts are far too big, could be a third of the size....we felt bad wasting !!

The George has always been a stunning pub, and now it has the food to match. We had a big dinner party here and everyone was delighted with their meals: steak tender and perfectly cooked, goats cheese roulade insanely tasty, crevettes fresh and delicious and the creamed cabbage side was something else. The staff at The George are charming and eager to please. I thoroughly recommend a visit. It is a wonderful local pub, with a first-class restaurant.

Just wow, thank you to Claire Dave at the George inn Newnham, had a wonderful birthday lunch for my dads 82nd birthday… not only did they give us our own private dining space, they also put a birthday banner up for my dad (he is a regular) I am super fussy about a Sunday roast but wow it did not disappoint.. thank you to you all (front of house a special shout out to Dave in the kitchen) everyone in our group of 12 had a clean plate.. cannot recommend this place enough Voir le carte

We've been to The George Newnham a few times its always been excellent. However, they really surpassed my expectations this time around. We paid just £15 for a delicious home cooked curry it included an alcoholic drink. The service was spot on, we'd been greeted well served by two waitresses who remained attentive throughout our visit. The ambience was so cosy relaxing, the roaring log fire, candle traditional charm helping to create just the atmosphere you'd expect. Bring on the next curry night! Oh we had one non curry eating child in our party they were given a choice from the child's menu which was also available making an ideal evening for a family.

After a long day of walking on our Pilgrimage, our original pub decided to cancel last minute on a pre booked arrangement. We came upon the George Inn and explained our predicament. Although their kitchen was closed the Manager Clare said she would see what her and her staff could rustle up for us. There was 40 or more of us so not a small task! Well the food was plentiful delicious! The pub itself was clean and had a lovely country feel! The staff were all so lovely and accommodating. I couldn’t believe the effort ease with which they catered for us. They didn’t need to but they really did go above and beyond and were truly a blessing and testament to kindness to weary travelers! "Having been to the Phoenix several times and I believe, this to be my second average review of the food and service, you 'd think they would have taken heed, but clearly not. Firstly, like most top end restaurants in London, they are reserving the right to charge for no shows £20 per head). But, what they are also doing, which is very unfair, is charging you for cancellations within 24 hours of the booking at £10 per head. If one or more of our friends had fallen ill over night it 's the flu season at the moment), they would have been were forced to go for an expensive average Sunday lunch, whilst spreading their germs to the other diners. It also poses the question, what would some do if you book a table less than 24 hours like we did) and then decide to cancel? The excuse that orders for food have already been placed doesn 't really hold water. The Sunday menu forces you to order a minimum of 2 courses at £34 per head. Some of the top London restaurants are charging less for far more opulent Sunday roasts e.g. the Jugged Hare at the Barbican). The Sunday lunch served was simply very average and not value for money. Finally, why are the desserts here, always consistently so bad? I ordered a baked cheesecake and got cream squirted on a piece of cake. When I asked what I had been served, I was told it was chef 's interpretation of a cheesecake. The menu clearly stated baked cheesecake. Not even in my wildest dreams can you interpret a baked cheesecake as a piece of cake with creamed squirted on it! This was promptly returned and replaced with a vile chocolate tart, with pastry so hard I couldn 't cut into it without the fear of smashing the plate it was served on. The chocolate was over salted and the chantilly cream served with it unsweetened. Save your money, go elsewhere."
