"We booked a family lunch to get together, we don't live locally but we have hired the tepee a few years ago for a party. We knew the venue would be perfect for a sunny day and it was; However the food really wasn't good , the lamb was tough and many aspects of the two courses we all ordered tasted synthetic (shop bought and not tasty) we all love cauliflower cheese and this just wasn't cheesy?? Ordinarily we are not fussy but this was a Sunday Roast? not good value as we left a great deal. The staff were gracious and the price of one bottle of wine was taken from the bill. Sadly we won't rush back to eat here."

We were a company of three adults and three children. The food and service were excellent and generous. We will definitely be back

Nice ambience Good menu with plenty of choices; they were a bit busy so offered us an extra complimentary drink as main course was a bit delayed.

The meat was good, the roast potatoes were excellent, but the Yorkshire pudding was oversized and the cabbage was undercooked with large veins still in. Voir le carte

Accommodated our changing numbers without a murmur! Good food and drinks came quickly with friendly efficient service. Place packed: can’t fault it! Will be back.

The problem was that we did not realise from the website that only a restricted menu was available, Sunday lunch type. Of its type it was reasonable but not excellent.

All food was uniformly excellent. Also nice to have cocktails in the parlour bar. Staff very knowledgeable and helpful although the service was slow at times, but the restaurant was busy and we weren’t in a hurry. Voir le carte

Second family celebration at The Fishes. Very enjoyable. The ambience on a Sunday afternoon is relaxed and we felt very welcomed by all the staff. Super dog friendly as well; our four legged friends were offered biscuits, water and a good fuss. Can't fault it

The atmosphere at this restaurant is lovely, but the food is just average. I was particularly disappointed by the lamb kofta starter, which cost £7 and only came as one chopped up kofta with a small amount of yoghurt on a tiny plate. There was no flatbread served with it, and the dish was a bit dry and poorly presented. The portion of fries also cost £5 for a quite small portion. Overall, I wouldn't go back to this restaurant. There are better places to dine.

"I've been going to Oxford for 3 years now and in that time to be frank struggled to find a decent go to restaurant. I can now say with delight i've found my destination. I present SPICED ROOTS a little caribbean culinary gem. The fresh perfectly cooked food is absolutely delicious and gives off that home cooked by mummy vibe and is beautifully presented. The chilli and garlic prawns had my eyes closed Mark Weins style (if you know you know) so juicy with an incredible depth of flavour, the Trini doubles not only were seasoned to perfection they left you wanting more and the Jerk chicken spring rolls were an absolute triumph. For mains we had the ackee and callaloo Jerk Tempah (vegetarian) and the Jerk chicken. Both came with rice peas, plaintain and salad. Not only were the portions huge the flavours of both dishes were just mind blowingly delicious. Then we embarked on dessert and had the beautiful spiced rum cake and a selection of 3 home made ice creams namely Coconut, Guinness and the old Caribbean favourite Rum and Raisin, all recommended by the owner. It's at this point I feel compelled to speak about the rum raisin ice cream. I've eaten this ice cream on numerous occasions at numerous locations in Jamaica over my many years and I tell you no word of a lie this was hands down the best rum and raisin ice cream I've ever tasted, it literally left us speechless. So to summarise, this place has great food, great music, great service and a wonderfully charming owner who's totally invested in serving great, incredibly tasty, authentic Caribbean food clearly prepared with love. What more could you ask for. Fair to say it was meant to be. Uncle Jay."
