Went for my works Christmas do. Great food and well served consider the numbers we were. Drinks where also topped up by the bar team

Following a good recommendation we booked a table for 6 in this pub/resturant. Outside they displayed a Les Routiers sign (I’m now wondering what that actually means and why they allow them to display it?

We were dissapointed with the portion size and the price we paid for it I was still hungry after this main because it was just a tinsy bit of fish, 2 prawns and 2 bits of potato...the dish was not substantial.

We visited the Ancient Shepherd between Christmas and New Year 2019. My partner had been wanting to try out this charming-looking pub and we invited some friends to come and try it with us. We were very disappointed with out visit:

The owners and staff are very friendly and welcoming. Our room was decorated well, exceptionally clean and stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The centre of Cambridge is a short Uber ride away. Would highly recommend this accommodation.

This place is unwelcoming, uncomfortable, freezing cold, has no atmosphere and the food is just horrendous. Olives and sun dried tomatoes were fizzy (essentially, off), the oil in the deep fat fryer was clearly old (they had been really busy the day before, justification apparently), the bread was stale and the steak more like roast beef. Strongly advise avoiding this place.

We enjoyed our recent visit to The Ancient Shepherds. Interesting character pub 5 minutes from the Cambridge Ice Arena where we had been in the morning. I agree with other reviewers that the service was shaky in parts, but the well cooked interesting food was the highlight. I noticed that accommodation was available and a helpful member of staff showed me around and it looked good.

What a dreadful experience. The place was uncomfortably cold on arrival, so we asked if another log could be put on the log burner. This was done but made little difference; not surprising when we realised that the central heating was turned off. What type of establishment has the heating turned off in December?!! And no wonder the waitress was wearing an Aran sweater! They did turn on the heating when we asked but we should not have had to ask.

We stayed at this fantastic pub after having spent the afternoon with family in the restaurant being well looked after with delicious food and excellent, friendly service. The pub was very accommodating, giving us a table away from the other diners so our dog could stay with us. There was a good range of food which catered for all tastes and needs. It was beautifully served and was really good value. Our room for the night was in a converted block at the back of the pub. It had been renovated and decorated to a very high standard, was warm and comfortable with lots of space for us and the dog. All the people working at the pub made sure we were well looked after and everyone was so friendly....
