"Sadly we have come to the view that the Pipe and Glass is simply not the incredible and always reliable venue it used to be. That view is based on our last few visits. Initially, we had a very poor Sunday lunch, the chicken liver pate was thrown on the plate with barely any chutney. I had pork which had what appeared to be offcuts or scraps of pork, as opposed to the usual huge slices. The gravy had been warmed to the point it had congealed. We waited 35 minutes for our main course, the staff had obviously forgotten about us. We hoped it was a terrible and very uncharacteristic ‘ one off’ but actually it was a sign of things to come. Three succeeding visits were similarly lack lustre to poor. A common denominator was lengthy waits between courses combined with bland food. Given the ever rising prices, this is simply not good enough. The Pipe and Glass lost two exceptional floor managers over a year plus ago and service wise, things have never been the same. Combine that with food that is average at best and we have decided not to return. How it has retained its Michelin star is a mystery to me."

great selection on lunch tasty, nicely prepared and tasty. excellent service and pay a 20 pfund reservation fee old made the meal excellent worth. only handle was the toilets with loose, sliding seat and only a small cold water for hand wash. wheelchair accessible and a very large parking space. beautiful ride on a sunny day.

A lovely lunch at one michelin star. We both really enjoyed our stone bass and fillet steak. The restaurant well managed with service and table lay out which you never feel cramped or listen to other people conversation. l highly recommend to go for Pipe& Glass Rose (house wine) Taste great! We would give 4.5/5 in this occasion as the front of the house lady and one of the waitress a bit less welcome over than that every guys there were amazing.

The pipe and Glass fully deserves its reputation. The service was excellent as was the lunch. We attended as it was my wife's birthday our daughter and 2 grandchildren came with us. We did not have starters as we all enjoy deserts. The mains, my wife had roasted Celeriac, my daughter had The Lamb I had The ploughman's, and 1 Granddaughter had fish and chips and the youngest had a cheese sandwich (special order as not on the menu) . All very well presented and delicious.

Michelin it maybe but service was distinctly lacking. No greeting on arrival just menus dumped on the bar, find yourself a seat. Here some canapés, oh are there any allergies? Let me just walk your cqnapes back to the kitchen and let them go cold whilst I check what's in them. Once at the table ... Would you expect to pour your own wine in a Michelin establishment let alone any decent restaurant? Check back on starters non existent, good job the food tasted good. Mains were good, but again service lacking, lovely bottle of pinotage, left on the table for us to deal with ourselves. There was at least a check back this time but the most basic of closed questions from the service team, when you...

Disappointing. We booked for lunch and looked forward to something a little bit special, as the Pipe and Glass had been recommended. I had a “proper prawn cocktail” to start with which was very nice, but nothing out of the ordinary. My husband enjoyed his chicken liver pate. My husband then had fillet steak for his main course and I had the guinea fowl. Whilst the quality of the food was good, both main courses were lukewarm and the plates were cold. This is not acceptable from any restaurant, let alone one with a Michelin star. We decided to call it a day after that and not bother with deserts. I could see that my husband felt very let down and disappointed, as he wanted to treat me to a sp...

We were quite excited about visiting the Pipe and Glass. Our room was lovely and the service was superb. Dinner, however was honestly a bit ordinary. I had prawn cocktail for a starter (I was intrigued to see what a Michelin kitchen made of it). It was okay, nice prawns but just an ordinary prawn cocktail. My wife did not really like her starter. We both had guinea fowl, very nice but my wife's was tepid and really needed heating up. Desserts were okay. My Baked Alaska with rhubarb was a bit sickly but my wife's chocolate dish was very good. Wines were excellent and fairly priced. Breakfast was very good and service fantastic. But the reason for going there was the dinner and we were not thr...

"Visited today with my wife and month old daughter whilst we are on holiday in the area. We didn’t have a booking but this wasn’t a problem, the staff were friendly throughout and accommodating about lack of booking. We asked for a children’s menu...(website says they have one) but we were advised it’s was the basket meals menu which they advertise as selling to guests sat outside, they did also mention they could make a smaller portion of something from the adult menu. The basket meals menu is mainly fried food and chips, the kind you might share with friends over drinks, I wouldn’t call it a children’s menu. To me a children’s meal should at least come with some option of veg/salad/beans and ideally not be fried, plus the chips that arrived with her chicken bites were salted, not great for little ones. We didn’t make a fuss as for one meal as a treat we weren’t unduly worried but it would put me off going back with children. They also charged the full basket meal price so no reduction for children. Our meals, fried garlic mushrooms, salt and pepper chicken goujons to start then a beef burger and chicken burger as mains, arrived promptly and were generous portions. The food was fine, nothing spectacular just average pub food. The main issue on our visit and the thing that made the whole meal much more stressful and unenjoyable was the flies, we were sat in what they called the restaurant area and our whole meal start to finish was disrupted by or flies continuously buzzing round us, trying to land on our food and land on us, not fun. I accept that or flies can be around when doors or windows are open and it’s hard to stop them coming when food is around but or round us and more to be seen in the room seems too many to me, it really put us off especially when they were landing on our daughter. At the point of eating the meal we didn’t raise the issue as we couldn’t see that anything could be done about it and I’m sure the staff are not a fan of the flies either. I did raise the issue whilst paying and was told they knew about the problem and were doing their best to solve it, sadly for us it would stop me wanting to go again. All in all not a great experience and the food whilst nice enough wasn’t good enough to overcome the issue of the flies and the lack of a proper children’s menu."
