"We visited our old favourite Hartley’s again this evening for only the second time in 2023. We always have a lovely time here but we are guilty sometimes of forgetting just how good the food is! To put it into context we have become “foodies” over the last few years having been spoiled by annual trips to France and a few Michelin Star experiences in the UK. Tonight we went back to the fabulous friendly and laid back experience that epitomises our favourite local restaurant, Hartley’s. From the minute we walked in, it was the usual friendly welcome and banter and wow was the food “on point”. Mrs D had the bruschetta freeing me to have the Squid and both were fabulous. Let’s be honest I don’t really like salad, but the one they do with the squid I could happily just eat on its own and with the pickle it so complements the subtle taste of the squid. For mains I had the sublimely balanced gammon with cream sauce, poached egg potatoes and cabbage. How well each element complements one another, The better half enjoyed the Seabass, which from my shared forkful was equally lovely. I had the delicate rhubarb and ginger crumble for pud while the missus had STP. All washed down with a lovely Chilean Merlot! What a fabulous evening! I said to JD “sometimes we do forget just how good this place is” 5 stars tonight only because I couldn’t give 6!"

"I just had an amazing three-course Sunday lunch that included a delightful sweet soup, tender lamb, and the best chocolate fudge brownie I've had in a long time. The service was excellent as well! While I usually enjoy breaking bread, I couldn't resist leaving any of the food behind. I highly recommend this place!"

"I visited this morning for breakfast and had a fantastic experience. The service was outstanding, even with my friend, who can be quite particular about ordering a full English breakfast. The staff were incredibly accommodating. The prices were just right. Overall, I would rate the service and location both 5 out of 5. Hotel highlights include a quiet atmosphere and great value for money."

"only review I have ever written, but I loved this little place! She stayed for work. the room was nice and the staff can not do enough to make them feel welcome and eating in the pub was great and good worth I fought to spend my cost supplement had a very small problem with a leak in the room (not bothered me, but recommended above all how it was on electros dripping) renter john was here in half an hour to take a look back and do a speed repair!"

"food atmosphere service Hard to review as this was a strange evening due to covid restrictions on arrival, shown to our table, was told she would come back to take our temperature (never did) waited over for...anyone to come back (as didn't know procedure) husband got impatient so went to the bar to ask what was happening, he was told to place order at the bar..... So, placed order starters mains with sides over half an hour later the garlic breads came out (which were sides with the mains) explained this, was then told by the same young girl who met us on arrival, well what would you like me to do ??? Extremely rude with an attitude, told her to take them back as we hadn't even had our starters yet !!! So eventually an hour later our starters came, lovely tasteful but again, with the garlic breads so told her to take them back, once again. At this point the mgr came over to apologise, we then got our mains the garlic breads correctly this time again, mains were delicious but came out literally as we had just finished our starters. Cocktails were amazing, frogstar martini their signature one is a must to try, lovely got me quite tipsy. Had a lovely night, apart from the garlic breadgate the snotty young girl's attitude, will definitely go again or get delivery as food is lovely."
