"My first visit to The Bear yesterday, had lunch with some friends in the glass cube at the back. The surroundings were quite pleasant and I was looking forward to lunch. I ordered the Hake in Batter as did another diner on our table. When the food arrived, the first thing that struck me was the size of the portion...it was overwhelming the plate and to be honest, quite off putting. And that 's before I tasted it! The Batter was crisp, but oh my goodness far too much of it and the fish, when I found it inside it 's gargantuan casement ! was not pleasant at all. The hard potatoes that accompanied the meal were vastly overcooked and not nice at all and everything had a nasty 'tang ' to it like old oil. The waitress was alerted to this when she cleared the plates and she was apologetic, but not a word from the Restaurant Manager. I won 't be returning to this establishment next time I visit Cowbridge as there are far superior restaurants in the High Street which provide quality food and value for money. Yesterday 's experience was all a bit reminiscent of a Berni Inn or Little Chef quantity over quality!"

I lunch here approximately every two months with a small group of friends. Food is good with plenty of choice. It's invariably busy but that's fine.

We came in for Sunday lunch yesterday, firstly we waited 20 mins to order our mains, drinks were taken at the same time, food came out after about 1/2 an hour later.

Family meal for Sunday lunch. Food service was quick, good choice and they had kids menu. Bar service was poor hardly anyone serving, seemed only interested in themselves. Otherwise would have given better score.

Waited over an hour for food, which wasn't great quality or particularly hot when it eventually arrived. No explanation or apology for the wait and other diners were complaining too. Staff seemed disinterested, it wasn't as if the restaurant was full either.

Went to the cube for a family lunch yesterday. Lovely setting but our lunch out was ruined as a bug crawled out of a half eaten prawn sandwich. We opened the other half to find the lettuce crawling with greenfly. Lunch ruined. We won't be going back to the cube.

Came here for a coffee and sat outside where they have a front seating area to watch the world go by. At the rear you have a very large area for outdoor events etc. Rattan furniture and pegolas it's beautiful inside and out. Staff are friendly but some meal prices are quite expensive.

I have just had Sunday lunch at The Bear and sadly, it is probably one of the worst I've had (I often go to different pubs, etc for Sunday lunch). It was cold cold Yorkshire pudding, cold/pink beef, hard diced vegetables (no traditional ones) and transparent/thin gravy. The only upside was I could take my dog.

We arrived for lunch on Dec 26th, a busy day, got a table immediately, and ordered two simple meals. The fish and chips was good, hot and freshly cooked. The baked potato with tuna was inedible. The potato had been previously cooked and the skin was charcoal. It had been insufficiently microwaved so the inside was tepid. My guest found it inedible and, though hungry and not a fussy eater, was put off eating lunch and wanted to leave, understandably.
