"Just back from stay in Hamburg. As we arrived late on Friday night, we really only had to concern ourselves with dinner on the Saturday night, so we felt it important to make the right choice of restaurant. We opted for Block House, after...looking at various options and reading some reviews. We attempted to make a reservation on way back to the Hotel in the late afternoon, but were advised that we couldn't make a reservation and that you had to basically turn up and wait your turn. We went back around and waited in the lobby area downstairs for around minutes or so, before we were called. All the staff were very pleasant. We opted for just main courses, I had Fillet and the wife had Rib Eye, which were both cooked to exactly how we wanted them. We enjoyed a couple of drinks and a bottle of Red Wine, which weren't overpriced. As we were finishing our wine, we were asked if we could possibly move to another table just behind where we were sitting, so that they could push some tables together for a party of six people. We were offered free desserts for our trouble, which we declined as we were full, but it was a nice offer for something that wasn't even a big issue. Would certainly recommend this restaurant and whenever we are in Hamburg in the future, we would certainly return!"

we ordered rumpsteak and cole Slav and eating was very good. also the side salad and the warm brot were great. the place itself, however, looks old and a bit like a kantine. make it more stylish and modern and they would bring me back. that looks right at the former is dreamy. Voir le carte

If you’re into poor customer service, I-hate-my-job-atmosphere, meat in your parmesan cheese and sand in your salad, this is definitely the place to go! The meat is okay, but not at all worth the price and hassle of rude staff and bad hygiene. Would not...recommend this place to anyone!

We visited for dinner on Friday evening, so had a short wait to be seated but felt like we were looked after. Once at our table, our waiter was friendly helpful, once ordered, the drinks food followed soon after. We tried the...NY burger the veggie burger both were delicious. We then wisely opted for dessert, also delicious. Throw in the views over the lake it adds up to a great meal.

Sadly we had the worst experience. We ordered two steaks and my partners potato was rotten with fungus inside half of it. After obtaining the waiters attention (I choose not to name her) she just said ‘I’ll bring a new one’ she didn’t even offer...to take the plate away or offer new cutlery until my partner asked her to as she provided the new one. Whilst he waited for the new potato his steak was cold. The waiter just placed the new potato next to the old one. The way the situation was handled was very poor on the customer service aspect. We understand that food can be off at times but the way it was handled was so ‘meh’ that it was upsetting. Voir le carte

well, who wants to eat in rest, perhaps shouldn't go to the block house at the younger climb, but who wants to eat well meat without compromise, this is gold right here. you will be welcomed in the eg and guided in the upper floor where you are expected to be a waitress. at the place it goes very fast, map, dishes of the day, drinks - finito, all in hanseater calmness and loose-flocky. the map offers everything a good steakhouse has to offer - especially meat. the ingredients: next thing. in the beef dressings is usually a full-grape potato with the tasty block sourcream and a half-panel block house brot (mall lonely, but tastes sensational). who has really much hunger can enjoy a delicious...

When we first looked at the menu in front of the restaurant, the pictures showed the meal served on a wooden board. do not let them be deterred because they are served on dish. When we entered, there was a waiter downstairs who told us to go upstairs. we were then picked up by the front server, which led us to a table where the waiter / the waitress bought over two menus (after we had seen that we were English, they provided us an English version of the menu.) the restaurant had a nice atmosphere in the inner. After we had ordered a steak dinner, we got the salad bowls with our dressing after choice, then came the steaks, served with an oven potato bone blue case. I had the Rib-Eye-Steak and...

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
