"Looking forward to meeting friends over dinner. First issue was when I asked for a nonalcoholic drink due to driving and asked if I wanted a soft drink. Poor, lack of choice. Had fish and chips that looked good and had a nice crispy batter and the fish inside was nicely cooked. Problem was this had clearly come out of a freezer pre battered and their ping-chef was unable to cook a frozen battered fish properly. Inside of the batter was raw, tasted awful. I meet friends and we take turns to pay, had I been paying I’d have sent the lot back. No comment was made by staff that I’d just peeled ALL the batter back and left it…now a traditional fish and chips it’s normal you eat the lot. A very badly cooked fish and chips raw batter is left so they must be used to this. Won’t be eating here again. If they want to charge restaurant prices, they need to provide the quality food to match. Not part cooked pre-packaged food from a catering suppliers. Very disappointing, spoiled the evening somewhat."

We were invited here for a birthday meal. Very pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and the service was second to none.

My favourite place to visit for a real warm cosy pub meal! The venue is cosy and charming the staff are super friendly. The home made meals are delicious and portion sizes are good! The cottage pie is delicious love the rock for its atmosphere and food.

The service at this restaurant was excellent. The food was delicious, however, the portion sizes were much smaller than expected. The ice cream that accompanied the brownie seemed to have been scooped out with a tiny spoon, which was a bit disappointing.

Recently went with for a roast dinner with the family. I ordered the 3 meat option which at £21 had high hopes for! Plenty of meat when it arrived but served with plain boiled veg and thin gravy was left a little disappointed. We all enjoyed our desserts tho which were of good size.. Voir le carte

I had a fantastic meal at this restaurant before Christmas. It's highly recommended to make a reservation in advance. I tried to walk in twice without a booking, but was politely turned away as they were fully booked. The pub serves the best ploughman's I've ever had - I was completely satisfied! I would definitely come back for it again.

The service was excellent from start to finish . We enjoyed our starters, however on the mains the steak was a little tough and the batter on the fish and chips was very dark and too thick. No one checked during our meal if was all ok. Desserts were very nice. Drinks were served nicely and the waiting staff were aware and asked us if we wanted refills at appropriate times.

Was very apprehensive about going out for dinner on a Tuesday night for a birthday celebration in the middle of the moors but was very pleasantly surprised. I thought we would be the only ones there but not the case, almost every table was taken and it was a really nice atmosphere. Staff were extremely friendly and we even had table service for our drinks! Food was really good too with a couple of specials available. I had the pork belly which was delicious and hot. Others on our table had the steak pie and chips which was a really good portion and they had nothing but praise. Have to say it was a really nice evening with great food we will definitely return Voir le carte

I frequently visit The Rock for drinks and food, and I am always impressed with the quality and presentation of the dishes. Recently, I went for lunch with two friends and we tried some of the specials on the menu. Two of us ordered the Hunters chicken, which was delicious. Instead of having cheese on top of the chicken breast, it was stuffed inside the chicken with bacon on top. It was a unique twist that we hope to see on the menu more often. The other two had the curry of the day, which was chicken. One of my friends opted for a smaller portion, which was still more than enough for lunch. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be returning soon.

Prawn cocktail starter always an old favourite but in this case i could count the defrosted prawns on 2 hands, and as with once frozen prawns they had started to 'mush ' in the very center of an opulent bed of leaves to make the serving look much larger than it really was. Then onto the main which was named something grand and romantic but was in fact simply hunters chicken. The chicken breast showed no signs of cooking other than boiled to maintain its size, wrapped in a rasher of bacon and i believe baked with a BBQ sauce over it. Came with some fries (i counted 15) which were also once frozen from a packet. For dessert , as with starter and main course we both went for the same and chose...

"Gidleigh Park is a country house located in a wooden wally in Devon. It is quite hard to reach the place on a very narrow road, which is very beautiful, but apparently during the winter larger cars can’t even get there. Gidleigh Park houses a two-Michelin star restaurant with Michael Caines as the main chef (the restaurant was recently voted number 1 restaurant in the UK by the Harden’s Sunday Times Food List 2014). Gidleigh Park also has bedrooms (apparently all individual in style and design) and you can stay there for the night and then wonder in the gardens of the estate, which I saw some people doing when I was there. I was visiting Devon and my boyfriend chose Gidleigh Park for lunch on a Sunday and we took the long and narrow road to Gidleigh Park. The inside of the house was very old and had a lot of charm. It had eclectic art and antiques and different style rooms, the lounge had different tables, chairs and the bar was done up in a completely different style. Gidleigh Park showcased British charm and elegance. You could chose to have their signature sample menu for £140/ person, but instead we went for the much cheaper version, their lunch set menu for £44/ person for 3 courses (you could also have 4 courses for £57). Also note choosing dishes a la carte would set you back £115, so the lunch menu seems like the cheapest way how to enjoy Gidleigh Park. We did not have any wine, but apparently thy have an amazing wine cellar. The three course lunch menu included a small appetizer, a starter and a main course and you could choose from one of the 3 starters and one of the 3 main courses. Our appetizer was “goat’s cheese foam with beetroot jelly, candied walnuts and granny smith apple”, but as my boyfriend does not like goats’ cheese he had a tuna tartar as his appetizer which actually looked better than my appetizer. I was not to"
