"Sadly we didn’t enjoy our meal as much as we’ve had there previously and it’s not the cheapest place to eat. I had polenta ‘chips’ for a starter and maybe my expectations were too high but I didn’t expect brick like chunks of polenta. The dip was was lovely though. Our main course came out almost immediately after our starter had been taken away. I had the mushroom and chickpea burger with vegan halloumi and chips. I have a suspicion that the chef cooked our mains too early, hence why it came out immediately but sadly the burger was quite sloppy and vegan halloumi was so oily and tasteless and all of the food was warm not hot. It could just be that I was unlucky with the dishes and it was just that I didn’t like what I’d ordered. I would love to see normal cheese (vegetarian options) rather than just lumping vegetarians in with vegans normally not a problem but our meal here tonight just highlighted how having the choice would be nice. I did mention all this to the server. The staff are really lovely here and the service was excellent so it’s a real shame that on this occasion the food let us down."

Our food yesterday was excellent, the Sunday roast beef dinner was especially delicious. We return every time we visit the Moor as we enjoy the pub so much.

We went to the Three crowns on a Sunday. The staff where really on point friendly and prompt service. The roast we had was one of the best. My daughter had a child's roast and it was a really good portion size. we where very impressed and will be back.

we had here a nice eating mustels and chips that were delicious, followed by cheesecake and mulled weineis sorbet, not to mention a few glasses glowing wine as I did not drive. the Christmas tree is beautifully decorated, very tasteful as the outside, which is stunning, such a beautiful atmosphere and very good service by friendly staff, a wonderful place to visit at any time, but christmas lends itself to this building

in some 4/5 stars hotels and guesthouses about dartmoor and more afield, and the three crowns rate in our top 5! the check-in and the service then had a personal note and feeling. all queries have been met, and the staff was polite, engaged and very professional. eating was first-class, hot, lots of it and very fresh. we were in the suite, which was very comfortable and the additional cost for the additional level of conveniences. we will definitely return and cannot recommend very enough. many thanks to all those who remember our stay to one.

Quality of food was very good, although portions were small. Sadly the service really let down our overall experience. Our server didn’t introduce themselves, they had to check what the specials and draft beers were and were not attentive to our table. They didn’t ask how our food was during our meal and didn’t collect empty glasses when they brought over new drinks. The fish and seafood platter for two to share came without plates. We requested a plate each from our server but never received them. When we paid the bill we fed back our experience but the person who took our payment just said “we’re on a learning curve”. Such a shame that the poor level of service detracted from the good qual...

"Gidleigh Park is a country house located in a wooden wally in Devon. It is quite hard to reach the place on a very narrow road, which is very beautiful, but apparently during the winter larger cars can’t even get there. Gidleigh Park houses a two-Michelin star restaurant with Michael Caines as the main chef (the restaurant was recently voted number 1 restaurant in the UK by the Harden’s Sunday Times Food List 2014). Gidleigh Park also has bedrooms (apparently all individual in style and design) and you can stay there for the night and then wonder in the gardens of the estate, which I saw some people doing when I was there. I was visiting Devon and my boyfriend chose Gidleigh Park for lunch on a Sunday and we took the long and narrow road to Gidleigh Park. The inside of the house was very old and had a lot of charm. It had eclectic art and antiques and different style rooms, the lounge had different tables, chairs and the bar was done up in a completely different style. Gidleigh Park showcased British charm and elegance. You could chose to have their signature sample menu for £140/ person, but instead we went for the much cheaper version, their lunch set menu for £44/ person for 3 courses (you could also have 4 courses for £57). Also note choosing dishes a la carte would set you back £115, so the lunch menu seems like the cheapest way how to enjoy Gidleigh Park. We did not have any wine, but apparently thy have an amazing wine cellar. The three course lunch menu included a small appetizer, a starter and a main course and you could choose from one of the 3 starters and one of the 3 main courses. Our appetizer was “goat’s cheese foam with beetroot jelly, candied walnuts and granny smith apple”, but as my boyfriend does not like goats’ cheese he had a tuna tartar as his appetizer which actually looked better than my appetizer. I was not to"

"I am wondering whether we went to another place in a parallel universe- so I have triple checked it is the same place. We were here for what was supposed to be an evening of dinner and drinks and turned out to be an episode of Faulty Towers. Shocking food and unprofessional service BUT our sides were splitting – best entertainment EVER: • One of our party was asked if her was a fortune teller because he was brown • Freshly opened bottle of prosecco flat????? Guinness was very poor • Very limited menu of which, lasagne was dry, reheated with wilted, softened cheese on top. The pie managed the feat of having a dry filling with a wet pasty. The vegetables were boiled to within an inch of soup (my glass of water had more seasoning), The gravy was grey and awful. • One of our party ordered from the kids menu as there really was nothing he could find. Imagine our hysterics as he ordered fish goujons with no beans and a pint of larger! • The best part! The cook came out of the kitchen as we were paying and beating a hasty retreat (so I could warm up the leftovers back at home) – she was very irate when told there were 8 more people to serve. Instead of noticing paying customers and being professional, she rolled her eyes and repeated in a loud voice ‘What, 8more? When asked by the bar person if she should tell the doomed 8, food service was over, she shot back and said ‘well tell them there are no potatoes left’ and she would see what she could ‘rustle up’. Felt so bad for the lovely lady behind the bar and the others who overheard Maybe this is a one off and it was a perfect storm of an evening for them, but it was this bad. Had we not been in good spirits and able to laugh and joke together whilst on a break, I would have been truly upset."
