"Went to this pub as it’s within walking distance. Sat outside as a nice evening. Don’t go out much at all as always tired due to getting over bowel cancer. Had a few drinks plus food. The food is very good but very expensive. Prawn cocktail very small for £9.50 and pudding £8.50 but that’s why this place is a treat place not an every day place. We got there just after 6 and left at 8.45 and for a Friday night saw hardly anyone go in or out, think that says it all regards the pricing. Anyway we finished and we always play a game of guessing the price. When we got the bill was abit more than we guessed but thought never mind and my husband can’t see properly without glasses so he paid the bill without me checking. When we got home I re- checked it and we had been over charged for 2 drinks we didn’t have. I had 2 but was charged for 3 and he had 4 but charged for 5! We therefore paid £10.50 more than we should have. He phoned straight away to ask to speak to Miranda the manager but she was too busy apparently, when it was dead and I think that’s extremely unprofessional to not even take our number to get back to us. My husband went up the next day to explain and she acknowledged one drink , mine, was incorrect and said he could have a free drink instead , but alas wouldn’t admit the other drink was wrong, which it was! I was counting drinks for us both and they added £10.50 in for 2 drinks we didn’t have. I’m very angry and upset she wouldn’t admit their wrong doing and personally will never go there again, you spoilt my night out!"

We went here last week for my dad's 60th birthday and our experience was outstanding. From the moment we arrived we received a warm and friendly welcome and the food was amazing. Big thank you for making my dad's birthday meal so special

My wife and family took me to Jack in the Green to celebrate my 70th birthday Great choice great venue great food and great service I enjoyed my favourite food of Fish Chips and mushy peas Massive thanks to Boss Paul and all the JITG Team

The efficiency of some of the staff made the dinner almost rushed and the service a bit cold, sorry ladies. And the fish pie was lots of watery mash and a distinct lack of fish; so disappointing as a long time ago I had several fab meals here.

We have been here a few times in the past and recently visited twice, every time we have been very happy with the food which is always very well presented and very tasty, a wide selection of food choices and the service has been very good Definitely recommend

Service great, didn’t have to wait long between courses, complimentary bread was delicious. Food tasty, I had the chicken , thought it could have been sliced rather that have a huge chicken breast and it was large) plonked in middle of plate. Shared a fondant chocolate tart dessert also delicious.

Took my mother in law here for a birthday lunch. Delighted I chose this restaurant as I don’t know the area around East Devon well. Food was very very good with a wide range from pub classics like fish and chips to more imaginative dishes such as cod and black olive gnocchi and so perfect for a group with differing tastes. Service was faultless. Warm, hospitable and thoughtful to the extent a waitress picked up on a conversation about the birthday and arranged for a charming surprise which bowled over my mother in law. Having relocated to East Devon from Oxfordshire some 10 years ago we have struggled to find the same consistency of quality 'eateries ' we were accustomed to. Numerous people have recommended 'the Jack ' over our time living here so, after 10 years we decided to give it a try. The occasion was my wife 's birthday so we opted for Sunday lunch and what a delightful experience it turned out to be. Beautifully, tasteful and unfussy decor with lots of space around tables was an immediate positive impression with a smiley welcome from staff who were all well informed regarding foods and wine.
