"This is a town centre hotel that is open all day, varying its offerings accordingly. It has a comfortable restaurant and another dining area similar to a pub lounge. Our reservation was for the restaurant, but we were put in the latter the menu is the same, however. And that menu is essentially basic pub grub: fish and chips, pork belly, steak and a burger, with some more interesting though very pricy starters. We had the fish and chips and desserts. The fish (unspecified, but probably cod) was fine, nicely cooked in a light and crispy batter. But the triple cooked chips were in fact thick potato wedges, and simply lumps of stodge. Another misnomer was one of the desserts allegedly a chocolate mousse, but actually two smallish dollops of ganache accompanied by a very large scoop of ice cream, perhaps by way of compensation. The dessert menu was also very basic, and one does wonder about the inclusion of a dairy free pannacotta why not just make a proper one, and something different for the vegans? But this is not an ambitious kitchen. We didn 't linger that area was pretty noisy and not a great place to sit. The service wasn 't particularly attentive, but it was a busy evening. Would we go back? Not unless they upgrade the menu this was a disappointing meal out."

We have supported The Bell since it opened We had a lovely wine tasting last year where food wine and staff were excellent However on recent trips the bar area is frequented by post work men complete in their work clothes/aromas included! Last night on a warm spring evening the outside courtyard was like a construction site… Is there no dress code? if not the bar may become a workman’s pub which will be a real shame

We popped in bank holiday Saturday late afternoon for a late lunch without a reservation and are so glad we did. I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere with such a warm welcome and such wonderful hospitable staff. We had a a bar meal of the house burgers which were absolutely delicious and a glass of wine and were also pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the bill was. We will definitely come back here. The service was just so good!!

Had dinner that was decided on looking at the menu the night before. Arriving for dinner any of the staff can either take you to your table or go to the bar for a quick drink first. The lady that took us to our table gave us menus but no drink menu we had to grab one from another table. The food was great, very tasty, although we kept having to try and flag someone down to re order drinks. Paying was slow and again had to grab someone.

This place was a nice surprise! We came to Saxmundham looking for Waitrose and a sandwich and this place provided the latter and a nice pint of beer. There are cheese and pickle sandwiches and then there are other cheese and pickle sandwiches and some are pretty grim but these were fresh and tasty, served with crisps and, to be honest, one of the best salad-type side decorations for a sandwich I have ever experienced. It was fresh, green and dressed to zing. Thanks!

We stopped here for a sandwich and a drink yesterday. It was about 4pm and the bar was busy. There was fresh water and dog biscuits for our Standard Poodle. Good selection of gins at the bar and my partner said the beer was good. I’m always a bit nervous about ordering sandwiches because I am often disappointed. Not at The Bell! The bread was fresh and the sandwich fillings were generous. Each sandwich came with a well dressed side salad, a ramekin of coleslaw and some crisps. We went away very satisfied. The only slightly negative comment is that dogs are welcome in the bar but if you wanted to eat a proper meal it would be very difficult using the coffee tables, especially soup!

"Sunday of our recent visit to aldeburgh was the Mother's Day and we welcomed the opportunity to taste the afternoon tea in the white lion hotel in adleburgh. the conditoir chef at the white lion is anmar odendal, an award-winning wedding cake designer. by her business crumb, she was recognized in 2013 by the high-time industry as the best wedding cake designer in the eastern englands. Our afternoon tea was florally inspired and included a selection of sandwiches, scones, cakes and pastries with a selection of tea, a glass champagne and a little pot flowers for mama, all at an incredible price of £20. it was overexamination good value and hard to think that we could get so much for so little. in a comparable iondon establishment would cost a afternoon as this probably at least £35 to £40. the selection of the fingersandwiches was delicious and included standard fillings such as gurke, sink, ei and water circles. the scenes were quite seductive, as they presented us an appealing texture. the outer was crispy and the interieur was soft. warm stuffed, the scones went floating with the dipped cream and delicious homemade skyberry jam. to the sweet things (my favorite part of a afternoon,) and on the top level of the tablet there were some beautiful pink meringue sandwiches lined with rosen water chantilly cream. these were delicate and as light as spring, and the combination with the cream was a good one. also on the top level was a zesty orange flower and vanille panna cotta sown with Indian orange blossom water and with fresh orange cest, popping sweets and a berry jelly. the jelly was particularly delicious as he was very fruity and helped to lift the panna cotta. the popping sweets was also a good note and gave the panna cotta an exciting twist. the panna cotta itself had a good consistency, but needed a little more vanilla for more taste. to move on the floor, and we really enjoyed the dark chocolate breweries as these were decadent and rich with an intense chocolate-y quality. the lavender sprocket was buttery and light, and the homemade makkarons of beet root and berry with a vanilla buttercream frosting filling were very welcoming. the macaron dishes were a little dense in the texture, but the taste combinations were a joy and were a joy to eat. a pistachio viktoriaschwamm came with a fabulous rose blossom jam center that really lifted the sponge with its sweet and exciting nature. it was a wonderful combination, and the sponge itself had a nice taste, although it was a touch dry. the themes for the afternoon tea on the white lion will change with the time as chef anmar constantly seeks new ideas and brings colorful inventions to the table. but is sure that every afternoon tee will be very pleasant. unique, colorful and funny, the pastries we tried were inviting to eat and showed solid technology. her creativity demonstrated the artistic and originality in her design. the sandwiches and skorn were also very good, and at a ridiculously reasonable price of £20 per head, the white lion showed that it is doing really well in the afternoon. I calculate today afternoon tee with 3.75/5"
