"The meaning of the given name Sunkai represents creativity, curiosity, charm, friendliness, cheer and social life…. This place has it all wrapped up in one . Been a while since we last visited and decided takeaway and what a feast and fantastic value for money. Marie so socialable, chef very creative with flavours . Cheer… always smiling is Marie as she took the order and so charming and friendly and never forgot our faces . I am always curious to try a dish I haven’t had before .. so tonight we had beef and tomato , succulent pieces of beef in a really tasty sauce and a good starter for someone just trying out Cantonese dishes . Prawn foo yung hubby is a great fan of the sea) Chinese pork cooked with water chestnuts and bamboo shoots … delicious. Everyone’s favourite sweet and sour chicken balls and a good size too and really tender moist chicken inside . One portion of King Prawn rice which is enough to serve two with all the other dishes .. of course no Cantonese is complete without prawn crackers .. Thank you again Sunkai very happy bunnies and at £28.30 well worth the money"

My husband and I had a carry out meal at 6 o’clock this evening, and would like say it was excellent.

Excellent. Would certainly visit again. Food and service good with good portion sizes. Just a little too far to deliver to Portpatrick.

Ate here years ago and decided to use takeaway on a return trip. Still the highlight of our stay. Tasty, hot and fresh and a good price.

Nice welcome, good table, freshly cook food. The restaurant wasn't busy so we had lots of time to take to owner and her daughter about Stranraer. Voir le carte

Ordered food for 7 of us, it was just ok, nothing special. Was just warm when we picked it up so by the time we got it home it wasn’t very hot at all. Tasted ok but I wouldn’t rush back.

Ordered a takeaway to pickup, food was ready exactly when they said it would be. Was clearly cooked fresh as it was still hot after a ten minute drive home. Excellent COVID-19 precautions in place. Would recommend and will be back.

Food was dismal, ordered Fillet Steak Cantonese Style asked for medium rare, told it was pre-cooked and unable to accommodate, came in a sugary sweet red sauce with onions 4 small pieces of steak which I would argue wasn't fillet. Special curry consisted of chicken 4 prawns. After waiting over 2 hours for our order it didn't contain the fried rice we'd order, hot sour soups were lukewarm tasteless. Only positive was the chicken sweetcorn soup which was delicious but again only lukewarm. BBQ Ribs were average but expensive at £5.30 for the ribs an additional £1.30 for BBQ sauce. Will not be eating from this place again

"Visiting Port Patrick again today we thought we would try a new place to eat. We normally eat at the same place here but today with chose the Crown Hotel. When you walk into the crown you see how old it is and I must admit it looks quant but a little dated. After finding a seat and deciding what to eat I went to the bar to order food and drinks. The service from the member of staff were pleasant and welcoming. We ordered 2 cokes and 2 stake and ale in a pudding one with chips and one with baby potatoes. We were charged a few pence short of £39 and given 2 cans of coke and asked would we like a glass with them? £4.80 for 2 cans of coke) Going back to the table I sat down and within less than 5 minutes our food was there on our table. I always worry when the food is so quick as I never feel it properly prepared fresh for you and when you are paying £17 a meal you at least want something fresh-ish. WHAT REALLY ANNOYED ME was while we were eating our food people were bringing dogs into the bar past our table to talk to a guy sat next to us. Chatting away these dogs were just sat by our feet as we ate. No one seemed to care about these dogs brushing up against people eating a meal. The food The baby potatoes were ok, the pudding was a frozen one you would get from a supermarket, the veg was hard, the meat was dry and bland and the gravy tasteless. I would say this food was a preprepared meal and just placed into a microwave. I don’t like to be so blunt in my reviews as this is always someone’s business and livelihood was are talking about, but this really was that bad. The service during the meal was none existent. When the waitress came to take our plates she did not seem surprised when I complained about our food, saying only I’ll pass it on. No apologies or anything. Even with me saying the food was especially the veg was disgusting. It was like water off a ducks back. Will I eat here again NO sadly the service and the food was very poor."

"For some reason I can not reply to your answer. Sadly you are absolutely wrong in everything you have stated, I find your tactic of attacking people who give less than 5 star reviews. I am not going to try to defend myself, as I stand by everything I said. I have made an appointment to see a solicitor about your untruthful comments. I would really of liked to put a good review up, however, I would not recommend this hovel to my worst enemy. Firstly the room was so small, and tatty, extremely dated with an alarm clock, which surely has been taken from a chalet from Pontins in the 1970s, that even the amazing view could not compensate. There was dog meat/food on the carpet, and I assume ash. When I went to look for someone to let them know, there was no one about. The bathroom was not fit for purpose, one as it was a converted cupboard, and the notice in the room explaining that the steam from the shower which was cracked set off the sensitive smoke alarm, so you could not even have a shower. Then when we went for breakfast, after waiting for 40 minutes for a breakfast which was a 1 sausage, a piece of streaky bacon, uncooked tomatoes and mushrooms, haggis, b pudding and beans. When I went to complain about this on the way out, I had the pleasure of speaking to someone called Donna, who was at best obnoxious, and as unhelpful as it was someone else 's fault, I quote I don 't clean the rooms, I don 't cook the breakfast . I would rather sleep in a tent than give money to this place, please look elsewhere, unless you want to feel as though you are being ripped off. In response to your reply I thankyou for it. I do not deny that I was irate, and if she cried, I feel terrible about that but I have also left things out, like the denial of the previous evenings attempt with the same lady about the state of the room, however I stand by everything I said, As you are true to form, as it never ever seems to be your fault, if you look at the previous low reviews, it is always someone else 's fault. Oh by the way breakfast took 40 minutes, and as you were not there, maybe you can check CCTV and see that the uncooked food was left, as was the haggis, however the toast provided was superb. I applaud your defense of your staff, I truly do. Hopefully you can maybe if you get another less than favourable review, see that it is the same points over and over again, and try to address them points, just a thought. Thanks again for your reply below, and I stand by everything I said, and truly can 't be bothered dissecting your reply, one slight point, I have witnesses about the night before, so I take with a pinch of salt, your comments"

"Myself and my partner where just outside of portpatrick yesterday and wondered about somewhere to have lunch, it was about 12.30pm on a scorching hot Bank holiday Sunday. We hadn’t actually planned to go there to start with but thought why not. I saw on Facebook Connors Restaurant had just uploaded a Facebook post about stopping there for a choice of 2 lovely menus and a cheeky gin, sounded perfect! The post had went up about 15 mins before we arrived, so I assumed they must be looking to take some tables. I walked down and there where 2 tables taken outside, and 1 table inside. I asked if I could get a table for 2 outside if possible and I was told no they had been reserved and I thought okay but before I could even open my mouth again she said all tables inside where also reserved that they where fully booked. There was 1 table inside, other wise it was pretty empty. Ok no problem, we found somewhere else so no big deal, after about 2 hours spent having food and wondering around we went back to the car (parked just up from Connors restaurant) and I noticed again there was only the 1 table outside, and no one at the others. I’m maybe wrong but I felt like this was odd, the inside didn’t look like it was “fully booked” either. It actually looked a little dead compared to everywhere else. This has also happened to my friends a couple of times too they’ve went in and the place has been stone dead but got turned away because of the excuse of being fully booked. Just felt like it was not quite right. Sorry I never usually write reviews but felt like I had to get my point across on this one. We would love to dine here and hopefully will in the future."
