"Booked for dinner by my partner, and having heard great things had great expectations. Unfortunately reality fell a little short. We arrived to an almost empty restaurant, during the sitting 7-8pm (Saturday) there were only three other couples, so atmosphere was a little flat. The menu was uninspiring (or in the case of the steak overpriced), so much so that my partner opted for a starter as her main. The desert menu looked more promising, my partner ordered the brownie and ice cream which she enjoyed and I ordered the cheese platter. See picture, for £12 you expect a bit more effort on presentation to say the least. Food wasn't terrible but for the premium prices you expect a premium product and service. We live locally so will give Monty's another chance but on first impression massive room for improvement."

Exceptionally overpriced Gin and tonic £11.50 Bitter £6.50. Two drinks, £18 no atmosphere no music bar person was very friendly we would’ve eaten and had another drink but felt ripped off. What a shame. Lovely location, and lovely building.

We had two really delicious meals here and the service was impeccable! However £20 for a single burger is a little steep, especially as you don’t get many chips with it. A beautiful venue nonetheless and a bonus that they’re so dog friendly too!

The best burger I’ve had in a really long time! However fire was closed for maintenance not their fault of course, but wanting a nice atmosphere and warmth as it’s icy cold right now, also had a subtle smell of drain, but the food and service was top notch!

Ate in the pub side in a fantastic window booth. The Sunday lunch was excellent. Not 5* as the service was a bit hit and miss. Confusion over whether the roasts were gluten free or not, took ages to get a decent sized tee jug and clean glasses for the table, asked for a Virgin Mary which was a let down. Wouldn’t put me off going again.

Called for a drink last Wednesday. First pint poured was sour and had to be replaced. Asked for crisps but was told that an order was awaited so out of stock. Then charged £10.50 for a pint and a large coke. Till wasn't working so had to pay in the hotel reception. This is a bar adjoined to supposedly one of the best hotels in Hampshire. Nothing here to encourage another visit. Perhaps if they had any opposition in town service might improve?

I ordered a cup of tea and it came with no water. Reluctantly 2 and a half pints because it took so long. A bowl of chips which tool 1 hour to be served all costing about £35. The staff were non apologetic and frankly a little rude and unwelcoming and to top it all off no toilet paper. Maybe I'm asking too much but I expected much better than this. Perhaps management should treat their staff better and it would be a happier work place. Wont be coming back

Went on Saturday night and the place was empty, about six tables so asked for a table for two. Waiter looked me up and down as if I was not fit to dine here and said I needed a reservation. I said you seem quiet and have many free tables but he just frowned and said sorry. I felt really unwelcome and made me and my friend who was not British decent very unwelcome with not even the offer of a drink. Never experienced this but felt we were racially profiled and just did not fit in with other customers. The atmosphere was like a wake inside and also so totally insulted so would not recommend the service one bit.......

Really disappointing service given the expectation set by previous reviews. Lots of little things like waitress on her phone for 5 mins while my glass of wine is sat on the side, she seemed more interested in clearing and setting tables rather than seeing to customers. Had to ask multiple times for certain things, they opened the windows next to us without asking, they took our order to the wrong table, they never removed excess cutlery or menus from table, the list goes on. I know it’s a pub restaurant but when the bill for 2 adults and a toddler comes to over £100 you expect more. Food was great though which is why I gave 2 stars

"My Wife and I don't travel so well these days but decided to go a little further afield from our usual Highcliffe and Christchurch haunts we live in Mudeford. We went twice in point of fact. The first visit was the 21st June when My wife and I had a quiet Birthday celebration lunch prior to the Family celebration later in the day. It was excellent. We only had the Mains and despite it being busy and not having booked we were served promptly and cheerfully with a round of drinks. My Wife had Chicken Pie and I had Liver and Bacon. Both were excellent and my Wifes vegetables were freshly done. I don't have vegetables. We liked it so much we went back three days later to celebrate our youngest Daughters birthday and again had lunch before the Family celebration later in the day. The meal was as fabulous as three days prior. My Wife had a Chicken Roast, our Daughter had Beef Roast and I had an amazingly well filled Steak and Merlot Pie of the Week. As before the vegetables were freshly done. Unusually for us we also had puddings (Lemon Meringue, Bailey's Cheescake and Apple Tart with Custard. All were excellent. All washed down with Tea and a Latte the former being served in nicely twee Teapots. Total cost £80 for the three of us on the second visit. Worth every penny. All in all First Class and couldn't fault it. Disabled parking nicely located in the front with ample parking for those more mobile at the side and back. Just a note for History buffs. The main building was built in 1853 by John Harrison(? a Carpenter thus the name Carpenters Arms."
