"I visited this property for an overnight stay with my girlfriend at the end of June 2023 The reception we received from Rebecca was warm and friendly, she was polite, attentive and very helpful throughout our stay The breakfast on the morning of our checkout was very good and the service prompt and professional The rest of our stay was not so good The room was showing signs of wear and tear Paint scratched, cup chipped, carpets stained and worn, door key label broken The walk in shower was broken as the hand shower had been removed and impossible to take a shower without full immersion under the main shower The bar wasn’t hugely busy but the staff were inattentive We waited to be served while three bar staff ignored us and went about various tasks a simple acknowledgement would have been fine The biggest disappointment was the food and service at dinner The manager was rude and unhelpful with no real understanding of the notion of service The food was for the most part pretty but poorly executed My smoked salmon was under brined and under smoked more akin to sashimi than smoked salmon My partner had the crab and cut the inside of her mouth on a large piece of shell overlooked in the preparation of the dish Her main course she told me was very nice My main course was the Hake the fish was tiny, (two very small mouthfuls!! overcooked and with an under-crisped skin This was served with a minuscule amount of samphire and a quater of a caramelised shallot in a very liquid sauce it was about a third of the size of my partners dish We had ordered a bottle of Chablis to go with our meal but this didn’t arrive And we weren’t asked if we wanted it until we were ready to pay!! Not once during our meal were we asked if everything was okay When I mentioned the fish dish to the waitress she said there had been many complaints previously about the size of this dish but that nothing had been done Very disappointing especially as we visited the place upon recommendation and based on the reviews of good food The whole place just smacks of “Style without substance” Good ideas just poorly executed Rooms: Worn and broken Food drinks: Food inadequate and lack of service in the bar and restaurant"

We had a lovely meal here when we stayed in Newport recently. The food was class as was the service, staff and ambience of the restaurant which made for a really memorable night. We’ve eaten here a number of times and it always lives...up to expectations. Well recommended!

Went to the secret garden for a drink. Bar man wasn 't polite and made out he was Doing us a favour by allowing us to have a drink. There was hardly anyone else at the bar and I can see why. £40 for four drinks you 'd think they 'd be a little bit friendlier! Wonderful food, lovely friendly attentive staff but the atmosphere is like being in McDonald's on a Saturday afternoon with feral children running around screaming and disturbing other diners. Whilst staff can't be wholly responsible for the behaviour of their clientele you expect they would recognise unacceptable behaviour. I did raise this at the time but was met with indifference.

My boyfriend and I had a 5-day trip to Wales from London and we stayed at Llys Meddyg the whole time and dined here every morning and three evenings. The food is really amazing at this restaurant and they have a good selection of wine too. Have to say I can’t really rank which main course that is my #1 cos all of them are soooo delicious. You cannot miss the sea bass after all and the beef brisket is just beyond then the chicken also. I posted all the pictures here hopefully someone would just enjoy them as much as we did. Hotel staff are really polite and friendly, they recommended walking routes and leaded us to beautiful sceneries and secret coves. Enjoyed our stay so very much would reco...
