"Staying about 2 miles away so we went into the Village to find a Dog friendly pub for food and drink. Walking in to see several dogs lying quietly about was a encouraging start. Busy but a couple of tables free. Had a Pint of Doom Bar and a lager shandy for the wife which was priced as expected and ordered food Wife had the Lasagne off the specials board which she loved and I the Gammon steak which was also delicious. 4 pints and the meals came to around £39 and thoroughly recommend a visit. "Had an average panini bacon and Brie today. Quite easily could have made better at home. No effort in presentation and the accompanying coleslaw was tasteless and lots of water in the bottom of the small dish it was served in. Crisps we’re nice tho : Asked if there was changing facilities to change my 5 month old baby and was told there was a mat in the toilet and that I could change him on the floor in the toilet or on the toilet seat itself. Safety and hygiene was not considered by the staff member I spoke to. (Not 100% sure but seemed to be more in charge so possibly owner or manager, not very friendly person . Wasn’t welcomed or greeted when we entered or when we went up to order. Simple hello, how are you? Too much to ask. On a positive the lady who bought our food out to us was lovely and made time to speak to us all. Shame as the place itself was nice.l and was looking forward to a nice lunch and a matter with a friend. Have given one star as no stars wasn’t allowed."

"I visited this restaurant for some fish and chips and had a fantastic experience! The service, food quality, and portion sizes were excellent. We ordered two fish and chips, a large portion of onion rings (about 20 pieces), mushy peas, and two large tartar sauces, costing us £36. The cod was generously sized and lightly battered, and the thick chips were not greasy at all. There may have been too many onion rings, but they were delicious, along with the thick homemade tartar sauce. The portion of mushy peas was also substantial. In fact, one order of onion rings and mushy peas was more than enough for two people to share. I would definitely recommend this place!"

"We were in Newport over Christmas and went in The Royal Oak a few times. On Christmas Day we were given a free drink for our first round even though we're not locals. The pub is well laid out with a super fish tank. The beer is good and there always seems a lively, though not too noisy, throng of customers. The Royal Oaks menu specializes in curry, although there are also many other dishes available. The curry is authentically made, the menu even carries a warning that they use proper spices. The food was excellent, plenty of it a value for money. Price per person: £10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Lamb Rogan Josh Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Free of charge parking lot"

"2nd time we’ve had sunday lunch here. booked and asked for a specific table in the non dog area which was ready when we arrived. so nice that there is an area free from dogs. fast friendly service from the young waitress. fabulous soft moist pork sunday lunch, really generous portions extra gravy on the side. well cooked mix of vegetables. we asked for a yorkshire pudding each which was a mistake. although they were nice the cost was an additional £1 each which we felt was excessive in an otherwise good value for money sunday lunch. won’t be asking again!! the view from the cafe which is part of the golf club is really spectacular. drinks selection is ok and we weren’t rushed off the table even though we didn’t have dessert. very enjoyable sunday lunch, keep it up cat rock."
