"Very pleasant experience considering restrictions. We booked a table outside and we were sat in the back yard, under a marquee. Next time I will request inside as I loved the low ceiling and old fashioned decor. The service was very good and the food excellent. The menu is very short but it provides great choice. We were 4 (2 couples) and we enjoyed the food. The prawns on bisque sauce were so delicious, I need to learn how to prepare that sauce. I followed that with scallop ceviche, it wasn't my favourite as I am used to real South American ones but I still cleared the plate. It was beautifully decorated. And as a main course I had the fillet steak which was cooked perfectly rear. But the tastiest food of them all was the ox cheek croquette that accompanied the fillet steak. That was sensationally tasty. That should be prepared and served in the future as its own main course. The only criticism is that the cheese board was too small to my taste as I love cheese. But there was an extra touch at the very end of the meal..., they prepared one free birthday and a free wedding anniversary treat for my son and his wife. Totally unexpected. The waitress just heard us during the initial toast and the rest is history!"

"we ordered the luke nachos that only with a small piece of vegan cheese and baked beans. could have been much better in my opinion. then we had the rustic pizza that I was not enthusiastic about, as she had too many caramelized wobbles on which it tasted rather bitter. for dessert we had the oreo chocolate dirt pot, which was also very disappointing. it was in the ground a few oreos in a glass with a bit chocolate sauce for £6.50 I found it all very overpriced for the quality of the food. will not come back, but I think it is a profi that the pub actually has a vegan menu, was simply not on our taste."

"I cannot praise this restaurant enough. We were visiting for a spa break in a nearby hotel and went to Carlos for dinner as the menu looked better than what was on offer at the hotel. I am so very glad we did. The staff were *so* warm, friendly and attentive, and the food was simply divine. I am trying not to evangelise but ours really was an exceptional experience and one that sticks out in my mind as a sterling example of customer service in the hospitality industry. If I lived closer to it, this would be my local restaurant. I had the mozzarella salad to start (this also included avocado and tomato), which was very fresh and tasty. For mains we had the veal chop (mouth-wateringly cooked in butter and sage) and the seafood linguine, which we polished off with paired wines and a side of tempura-style courgettes. We made room for dessert too, despite the generous main course portions, which I should also say were presented cleanly and invitingly. There were several birthday parties going on at the time of our visit but far from this being annoying it was a jolly and celebratory atmosphere that felt familial. My experience didn't end there as I stupidly left my umbrella under my seat, so called in the next day to collect it. The staff were very kind about it, and my collection was fuss-free. What a lovely bunch."

"Let me keep this simple, this is my experience. Great restaurant great service always with a smile and sense of humour. Great variety of food served hot and very tasty and on hot plates (oh joy)! Eat inside or in the tent, fabulous views, easy walking on the Downs in the fresh air afterwards what's not to like! Could be my fave place to go for breakfast and sometimes lunch! I'll be back.... !"
