"were there from 4th to 5th august 2021. on our round trip we had booked 7 hotels in several countries. com the old post in oberammergau was the only one that could be booked in advance on our card. the hotelier seems to be distrusting to its guests. when we arrived at the reception, she was unoccupied. then came a hotel staff, let us stand first and take the phone that had just started to ring and let us wait until the conversation was over. also not very customer-friendly. positiw: eating was good."

I was brought here by my tour. It's nothing special. Just another German restaurant. You can do better.

We stayed at the hotel for the night. In the evening we had supper and the next morning we had breakfast there. The supper was very good and consisted of Pork Roast, Dumplings, Red Cabbage, and dessert of fruit and whipped cream. Breakfast was a buffet and we found plenty to fortify us for the activities of the day. Voir le carte

This restaurant was mentioned in writing first more than 700 years ago as the "Old Tavern". Nowadays it´s a typical Bavarian village tavern which is owned by the landlord´s family for almost 100 years. Good regional food, good size portions and really cheap. Friedly service. Old style rooms inside, small biergarten outside next to the church.

We stopped here for dinner tonight, drawn by the white asparagus soup (spargelrahmsuppe). And it was fantastic. I had a salad and a local dark beer, my wife pork in dark beer sauce with a potato dumpling and red cabbage. The food was good, as was the location. We had a little trouble getting service when we were ready to leave, but that's not uncommon: generally, people want to sit and in Germany (unlike the US), they're not eager to push you out to make room for another fare.

"Vist Oberammergau several times a year for work and always make I sure I come here, and as unimaginative as it seems, I always have the schnitzel - I just can't resist it. Perfect thin escalopes of pork in a breadcrumb which includes bacon bits, served on delicious buttery saute potatoes with onions - comes with a well dressed side salad too.You get 2 food size schnitzels per portion, which seems generous (though I've always managed to finish them off). Other dishes on the menu look good too (one of our party had the lamb and was very pleased) and the desserts are also very good. All in all it's a must-eat stop in Oberammergau for me. Wolfgang and his wife are always friendly, and welcome returning visitors with genuine warmth. Other staff can be very German (which of course they are) - not rude or impolite, just direct in a way which you don't normally find elsewhere. For example, a request for fries with the burger (let's face it, a very reasonable one) was met with a 'nein'. No explanation, no beating about the bush, just a straight 'nein' - at least you know where you stand. And the kitchen may close while you are finishing off your main course - don't expect to be told and asked if you would like to order dessert. Overall though, these are not reflections on the restaurant, but on the German tendency for plain speaking and rules. I've given it a 5, which is possibly generous, but it's more than a 4 - it's a great place and I will always return."
