"As a steak connoisseur , I have sampled almost all high end steak houses in Hamburg . Theo's in central Hamburg is American inspired with a morden , elegant yet informal environment . To start with , the bar is a great place to have your aperitive before moving to the adjoining dinning area . Ordered an US beef ( they didn't specify exactly which US type it was ) rib eye ...... medium . The steak was served as it should be on a hot plate , the meat was grilled at high temperature giving the top layer a crust with soft meat underneath . The sides were good (though they give it a fusion touch ); I like classic and hence had to ask them to do it without any twist . Service was good , attentive waitress without being overbearing . For dessert , the mixed variation my guest tried looked good but can't comment on its taste . They have a good selection of wine even by the glass .... would recommend this for steak lovers ; price point is acceptable as per fine dinning steak house standards though would be considered expensive by averages Hamburg prices . Prior Booking highly recommended . Parking might be an issue (unless you use the Elysee hotels parking )but not impossible ; it's a very short walk from the Damtor railway station ."

Sell your house, mortgage your offspring, sell a kidney. Do whatever you have to do to enjoy this experience. It's very special, and in every way better than any other 'entertainment' Hamburg might have to offer.

We are absolute fans of Theos. If you get back so much good, it's worth 5 stars. Great food and very friendly staff, fantastico!!!!! Please stay that way. One more word to the “Nörglers” that it is better in the meatery and that the operation is unfriendly. I don't know what these people do. I mean, a little further south is the station, there's something to eat.

On a 800 degree grill the steaks where cooked perfect with a crispy crust. Ambience is cosy, professional and romantic. What would you wish more for a good diner with your partner or friends. Had diner twice this week. Once rib-eye on the bone and once the filet. Both a roller coaster experience. Next week no meat but these dinners will be remembered for a long time. Voir le carte

My husband is the beef expert, and every city trip we take, we have to search for the perfect pepper steak. My husband was delighted with his steak, cooked to perfection.1st class service, great ambiance with music from the golden oldie era, Frank Sinatra, The Rat Pack etc.I chose the lobster, very nice. Would have liked a little more of a choice on the desert list. Was very limited.

Both this steakhouse and its meat are, literally, one cut above the rest. The lively and relaxed atmosphere of Theo's, located in the excellent Grand Elysee hotel, provides a pleasant setting. Add to that mouthwatering, dry-aged steaks from the US, Ireland or Germany's own Mecklenburg-Pomerania and an attentive service and you come about as close to a steak lover's heaven as you can east of the Mississippi - and of the US. Recommended !

A meat lovers must. Well worth the walk. Lovely staff who make you feel very welcome. I highly recommend the Porterhouse steak, you can choose from available sizes on a blackboard. It was divine. Side dishes and sauces are free to choose from and are included in the "steak price". It's a steak for 2 persons to share and we were afraid at first that it would be to much (810 g for 2 persons) but there is a rather large piece of bone attached with it. So definitely go for a bigger one. The porterhouse steak alone cost around 95-100 euro (for 2 persons). But I'd rather eat here once than 2 other times at other restaurants. Voir le carte

We were staying at the Radisson Blu, and it was an easy walk to this restaurant. We had a 6pm reservation, and were seated immediately at a window, so we had great seats. I was totally impressed that our waiter (Lars) had his own business card that he placed on the table. My husband and I ordered filet mignon with side orders of green beans, mashed potatoes and carrots. Our steaks were the best steaks we had in years and were perfectly cooked to our liking. The side orders were prepared with love and tasted delicious. Our taste buds would love to eat in this restaurant every day. The key lime pie was a real treat. Bravo Theo's for a job more than well done. What an amazing culinary experienc...

Theo's is the perfect place to go if you want to impress your date/business partner. The design and ambience of the place are very classy and elegant. Our table wasn't ready on time so we were offered to wait at the bar, which was cosy and had a good selection of cocktails. After 20 minutes our table was ready. For the starter my husband had the beef tartar (and liked it), I had the avocado tartar, which I wouldn't recommend; two avocado slices on top on chopped tomatoes. For the price I expected something more.. special. For the main course he had the steak with truffel-mashed potatoes (oh, the potatoes were divine) and I (vegetarian) had a mushroom risotto, which was excellent. Two Chapeau...

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
