"This busy little pub monopolises the area but the staff were excellent in serving, taking orders and apologetic for any inconvenience (the blonde girl was excellent). It’s traditional and rustic charm means you have to accept some basic comforts and conveniences but we loved it. If you’re looking for polished and sanitised environment then go to Wetherspoons (yawn). It was good to see and taste gravity fed beer poured from barrels behind the bar supporting local breweries. Now the food. Superb. The steak was just delicious and the burger (normally a bog standard offering) just divine. We sat in what looked like an old small larder room with thick walls but with candle lit tables added to its quirkiness and charm. Relax, buy a local beer and jpeople watch. You’ll see observe old money mingled with new money and no money (us) which makes for an entertaining evening."

A rustic old smugglers pub, full of charm. We called in for lunch, ordered a ploughmans to share with a bowl of chips. Generous portions and one of the best ploughmans we have had for a long time.

Absolutely spot on lunch. Scotch eggs were heavenly and light, crab and avocado stack was fresh and tasty and the chips…. You will want a second portion. All in the most perfect traditional cosy pub setting.

Definitely worth a visit we walked along the coastal path and cut inland to The Pigs Nose. Arrived on Harvest Night it was busy but the food was excellent (as was the beer). The staff were friendly and the service great. It was a rare find in the days of 'chain ' owned soulless pubs could have stayed longer as it felt like home.

What a wonderful pub. Friendly and unique. We were staying in the area for a couple of nights and could not believe our luck in having this fantastic pub in the village. The variety and quality of beers was good, pub food done correctly with generous portions and a great luvs band which was perfect for my music loving family. What makes this pub so good was the atmosphere. A truly unique and happy place to be

Dont bother! We have been here over the years and sadly won't bother ever again if we travel down there. Don't get me wrong the place has charm but if you turned up the lights you'd be horrified with all the dust and grime everywhere. Food was ordered (only 2 of us in the pub eating) yet they manage to get the order completely wrong. The fries were fried within an inch of their life so they were like crisps. The burger was ok but nothing to shout out about. No idea how they've managed to win awards, the food isnt anything special, most of it is something with chips (crisps).

We were staying nearby for 3 days and booked here for the Friday night. Pub is 500 years old and was used by smugglers and pirates we were told. Food was good and not too expensive. Recommend the crab salad starter. Delicious. Place was full of locals and had lots of character. We went for a walk to the Coastguard station at Prawle Point on the Saturday morning and called in on the way back to see if we could get some lunch. They had just stopped doing food but let us order a sandwich and a scotch egg which was just what we wanted. Would love to go back next time we are in the area! Definitely recommend but you need to book in the evening.
