"Upon arrival, we appreciated the quintessentially English country pub ambiance, and we were eager to enjoy a hearty roast after a long 12-hour shift. We requested that our meals be served hot, as we had read some reviews mentioning that the food often arrives cold. Unfortunately, the roast fell short of expectations. We both ordered the pork belly with crackling, but the dish arrived with a gravy-soaked layer of fat and no crackling to be found, which was disappointing. The pork was barely warm. After inquiring with our waiter about the absence of crackling, he returned with a small plate of it, but it did not look very appetizing. On a positive note, the glass of wine I had was quite good, and the roast potatoes, swede, cabbage, Yorkshire pudding, and one parsnip (the others looked boiled) were enjoyable. However, the lukewarm pork and cold gravy detracted from the overall meal. Following our meal, another waiter approached us to check if everything was alright. I informed him about the missing crackling and the inadequate temperature of the food. He apologized, mentioning that the meat usually comes out well and that we should have received better service. I was surprised by his response; I had hoped my feedback would be taken constructively, but it seemed to go ignored. Our bill for two roasts, one pint of Aspall cider, and a glass of red wine came to £62, which I found to be quite steep considering the quality of the service and food we experienced. We visited The Half Moon as a family of four on 15/10/23. We enjoyed a very good Sunday roast, the chicken, pork belly and beef are certainly some of the best roasts on offer in the local area the food quality is very good the homemade ‘yorkie’s’ are a triumph ! In addition, the choice of starters and desserts was fabulous. They kindly packed a dessert to take home as we were sufficiently ‘stuffed’ (no pun intended) from the main meal. The bar area is stylish and comfortable, complemented by an additional restaurant. The midday snack selection was decent, though the sandwiches were quite large, featuring a hefty amount of bread. During our visit, the atmosphere was relatively calm. Unfortunately, despite our request regarding how one dish was to be cooked, it was not prepared as we asked, and the attempt to correct it was unsatisfactory. However, this may be an isolated incident, and overall, the property is certainly worth a visit. It’s particularly popular in the summer, thanks to a spacious back garden that caters well to families. Overall, it's a well-frequented spot. Price per person: £10–20. Food: 3/5. Service: 3/5....
