"We love the food at this pub so we came back again to have the pork belly, which when we had before was absolutely perfect, infact one of the best. Meat cooked to perfection and crispy fat/crackling. Unfortunately this time my partner was very disappointed...with his as the fat on the pork was very soft almost like it had been heated up in the microwave.I understand some pork dishes are fatty but this just wasn’t quite right. And because it was so good before we didn’t expect it to be so like this, working in hospitality myself I think it’s always good to give feedback good or bad, I did mention it but also being positive and saying my pie was just what I was craving, the manager did apologise and explain different chefs, different food quality, personally I think a little kind gesture like a coffee on the house is always a winner to get customers back if unhappy as food was poor quality, but the bill came at full price. No drink on the house or kind gesture . Feel like it was just shrugged off because I didn’t make a big enough fuss. The time before I was with a friend and fair enough it was a busy Monday lunch but we had to ask for the bill 3 times and a glass of water also 3 times. Service is hot and miss."

Lovely pub, nice helpful staff .... but only two vegetarian options and they were both stodgy. Please can you consider including a vegetarian burger, then all would be perfect!

what can I say, the foods and drinks on the dog are consistently delicious at a reasonable price. it can be quite crowded in the evening and on Sundays, but so well book ahead and be ready for a “kozy” atmosphere. all round one. nice place to spend a few hours with friends with some crisp dresses.

Great roast, enjoyable dining experience. We had a reservation for Sunday afternoon at this pub. It was quite busy and loud, which made it difficult to hear at times. The pub was still packed with people around 4pm. Unfortunately, the waitress forgot to return our tip, possibly due to being too busy. Voir le carte

We went to The Dog pub twice during our stay in the area and both times, I was impressed by the food and drinks. The atmosphere in this pub is fantastic, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. I have to mention that the prices for both food and drinks are very reasonable. I highly recommend visiting this pub, and if we are ever back in the area, we will definitely make another stop at The Dog.

Party of six and had an excellent meal with great service. The only quibble I would say was that there seemed to be no heating on and we were all extremely cold sitting at the table (one of our party put her coat back on)...I was next to a radiator which was stone cold even though the temperature outside was freezing However we had a good evening and would recommend the Dog for a hearty meal that’s good value for money

On arrival, I felt I was sent o the naughty step. Don't stand in front of MY bar'. No time to check out the drinks, go straight to your table. My pork belly wasn't what it used to be. The crackling was cold and soggy....The Lemon rice, hadn't been introduced to the citrus family. The Curry had the texture of being from a packet. I think my rating of 3 out of 5 is being generous, but I didn't want to knock them down too much as we have had really good food in the past. Hope this is just a blip. Voir le carte

Absolutely terrible experience. I ordered the Thai green curry and the prawn tagliatelle, both of which were a complete disappointment. The sauce of the curry tasted like dish water, the prawns were overcooked, and I even found a piece of crab shell in my food. The meal was not enjoyable at all, especially considering the £16 price tag. The waitress was polite and offered to make it right, but I was too upset to try anything else. My partner enjoyed his meal, but I ended up stopping at McDonald's on the way home because I was still hungry. After reading other reviews, I see that I am not the only one who has been let down by this restaurant recently.

I visited whilst on a trip with some bellringer friends who had booked tables in this pub . WHen I approached the bar the manager asked Are you an inspector seeing that i was carrying a camera and taking photos. I said I was...not. When i asked if I could have food he retorted Have you booked in a grumpy voice. I said that I had not but some friends had. Eventually I was allowd table and ordered food SRi lankan Fish Curry.. This was very tasty, , well presented, wonderful aroma and texture. WIth this I had a pint of dog bitter. Again this was much to my taste. I completed my lunch with Creme Brulei. My friends who had booked their tables were pleased with their experience, food and drink But...

"I love pubs! How many times do you hear that? I only properly discovered them 18 years ago because in France, although we have our cafes, they are nothing like pubs. I fairly quickly categorised them because when you think about it, they are all different. The best description for me for this one is a town pub full of character. I discovered it thanks to a friend and started going to hold a French Conservation group. I have only had drinks so far and believe me if you are after reasonable prices you have to go to the Gladstone. I have recently paid £2 in another place for a soda and lime. Here they charge you £0.30. And before you ask, no, it's not because it's served in a shot glass. When you enter the premises you will notice first the space. It has got room but you also can decide to sit in a smaller area. There is a fire place which is really nice especially at this time if the year. I went last Saturday to meet with a friend and we decided to have something to eat. If you want a night out but your are on restricted budget this is the place where to go. Ok the menu doesn't give you a massive choice as some do but in fact think about it, it won't take you too long to make your decision. The choice is good and the prices quite low. If you are vegetarian they certainly have thought about you. I am not but to be fair I've always wondered why the choices seem to be so restricted for those who are when eating out? I ended with the chilly beef and cheese. I like the fact you can choose to have it with rice or bread. The serving is good and I really enjoyed it. It was very tasty. The staffs work hard, are very pleasant and easy to interact with which is exactly what you want in a pub. It's a place with great atmosphere. And if you enjoy watching tv in a pub this is certainly the place where to go. It was a very reasonable and enjoyable night out. I'll be back!"
