Characterful and friendly pub/restaurant in a beautiful village with a good mix of locals and visitors. Visited 3 times during our week's stay in Marston Montgomery Saturday lunch, mid week evening and Sunday evening. Sunday roast is highly recommended. Despite a small menu of reasonably priced classics, all choices were cooked well with friendly restaurant and bar staff. Well worth a visit.

Booked a table of 6 online and had confirmation for this too. When we arrived there were no tables ready for us and it didn’t appear like they had our table booking. Our order was mixed up and one of us had to wait for their meal as they had got the order wrong. The burgers were disappointing and didn’t appear to have the cheese on them as specified in the menu. The chips were over cooked too. On a positive note, the puddings were nice and they didn’t mix them up! This was my favourite place to eat but I won’t be going back in a rush. Not sure what has happened but it has definitely gone down hill.

I decided to stop by this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon after seeing signs for it along the road between Uttoxeter and Ashbourne. It was quite busy and I was informed there would be a 45 minute wait, but my food arrived in about 15 minutes. There are different seating areas to choose from, all of which are spacious. The menu mainly consisted of Sunday lunch options, but the portions were generous and the meat was plentiful. The quality of the food was very good. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. They also offered a selection of hand-pumped beers. The on-site parking fills up quickly, but there is plenty of quiet roadside parking in the village. Voir le carte

I am very surprised about the poor reviews…. We booked this restaurant for a 60th birthday celebration meal whilst staying in the area. I booked online and after reading some previous reviews, I checked directly with the restaurant that they had got my booking, which they confirmed they had. There were 7 of us ranging from age 13 to 81 and we all found something we fancied on the menu and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food. I had Sunday lunch with my family at this restaurant. The Yorkshire pudding was enormous, but the meat portion was so large that it covered up the vegetables on the plate, which were stingily portioned. The lamb, priced at £17, seemed a bit expensive considering the portion size. The elderflower panacotta had a very strong flavor, not the delicate taste one would expect, and it was chewy due to the heavy gelatine setting. The sundae had minimal ice cream and lacked other items like cream. When we requested a crumble, the topping was rancid so we sent it back. When we first came to The Crown the food was awesome… delicious and well prepared. Unfortunately we came tonight for Valentine’s and I can honestly say it was the worst meal I have had in a long time. Limited menu, one item representing one of four choices was off . I had chicken..it looked as if it had been under the hot plate for a long time as it had a baked crust on it and was dried out. My husband had sea bass ..this was nice but a very small single fillet and potatoes that were almost raw. Portions were very small. Found this absolute gem by chance when skimming for post-Alton Towers accommodation (have stuck a separate review on for that From start to finish the night was simply amazing. Insanely welcoming team, lovely drinks selection and the menu, well… lost for words! 10/10 service, unfortunately we didn’t grab any names to mention but to everyone on shift Saturday 22nd July you are a credit to the industry. We ended up taking some food away for the trip home the next day as it was very filling (and we did go for 3 starters, 2 mains and 1 pudding… but perfect. Six of us visited The Crown last night as we were celebrating my daughters 40th birthday and were staying across the road at the Manor House for a few days. The visit began disappointingly. Ater being seated and having our drinks order taken while we perused the menu, which we had to ask for, it then took about 25 mins for the drinks to arrive after twice again having to prompt the staff. When ordering our food we were then informed that they didn't have a drinks menu which we had never ever come across and the waitress just reeled off 3 different types of red with no other details. Our Mains courses were outstanding especially the Lamb special. Two of the Calamari starters were under cooked...

Disappointing... On arrival, we were told that we 'd have to be in the function room... reading elsewhere, it seems that on line booking doesn 't actually go through to the pub (or be actioned , so no restaurant tables are allocated. Seems like the system is broken from the outset. However, what followed was almost comical 8pm on a Saturday, and they 'd 'run out ' of prawns for the surf 'n 'turf... that 's OK, we ordered steaks x 4, confirming whether we wanted skinny fries or chunky chips and all was good. Only it wasn 't... they 'd run out of steaks and only had one left! So we reordered, again going through the scenario of skinny chips vs chunky chips and I 'd asked to swap the cheese on...
