Everything about this restaurant is amazing, they have a real passion for the food they serve, always tasy dishes and generous portions. "Dinner. Tapas fine dining evening. It's one of Ashbournes' premier restaurants. Located in Boylestone, a lovely little village just off the A50. On arrival, you are seated in the cosy bar area for a pre-dinner drink. A Sangria was the obvious choice. You are then shown through to the dining room. Barn, like with its exposed brick and high rafters, which is spacious and airy. Our table was facing the open kitchen where we could watch Jon and his team in action. As well as their seasonal tasting menus, they do some themed evenings. On our visit, it was the Tapas Menu. Snacks BBQ Picanto,feta/ Israeli cous cous. Manchogo Jambon Croquette Chorizo. Loligo squid Tompura,saffron aioli/ anchovy oil. Gambas Pil Pil House Focaccia,tomato/ anchovy Hand Dived Orkney Scallop,Squid Ink Paella Iberico Pork Chop,black olive Hasselback potato bravas Salad of fennel/ orange/ citrus. Poached Clementine,lemon sorbet. Pastel De Nata,almond ice cream Petit Pours Service is attentive but not intrusive. The food and ingredients are of the highest quality. For a relaxed informal evening with music in the background, you'll be hard pushed to find better"

"On Holiday for a week so called here on a trip to Bakewell. Cafe is well presented , clean and the staff were all friendly and helpful . It took a long time approx 40 mins) for our food to arrive . Luckily we were not in a rush so it didn’t matter to us . It was quite busy in there and the food is obviously cooked fresh . I had the vege bean pot with halloumi cheese which was really tasty and my husband had the club sandwich . Prices are average I imagine sandwiches seemed a bit pricey . Lots of eating places in town Certainly worth a visit though."

"On entering, we were totally ignored by the owner. We had to ask if we should be seated, and then it took about 5 minutes for the other staff member to clear the table and she didn 't wipe it clean. We weren 't greeted or smiled at, or offered options by either of the staff. Despite the fact that there were only four tables of people in the cafe, we had to wait 20 minutes for coffee and cake. The coffee and cake, to be fair, was OK. However, when we went to pay, the extremely miserable cafe owner didn 't make eye contact or smile or really acknowledge us at all. Sad as the products they were selling were pretty good, but the ambience and 'welcome ' were miserable. I really don 't like criticising a small business, but I did feel like walking out soon after we arrived. The only thing that kept us that there was little other choice in the village, although the new take out place down the road looked good, and it was only the threat of heavy rain which prevented us from sitting out on their chairs (they have very little indoor space). All in all, sadly, quite a miserable experience. Sorry but you need to up your game in the hospitality business."

"During our 50-mile ride around the Peaks, we came across this café by chance. It turned out to be a great find for us since it is a vegetarian café, perfect for our group of mostly Muslim friends who can only eat halal meat. The food was delicious and satisfying, just what we needed during our tour. The table service was excellent, provided by two friendly ladies who run the café. There was plenty of outdoor seating and space to park our 11 bikes. Overall, this café was a hidden gem along our route that we were grateful to discover."

"This hotel is not ‘dog friendly’ it is dog tolerant and I believe there is a difference. You cannot have any meals either in the dining room ok but not in the bar or lounge either accompanied by your faithful hound. I did not take kindly to the suggestion to leave my dog in the car having driven for many hours to get there. The hotel and rooms are comfortable but a small fridge would have been a good idea to have fresh milk with tea or in my case to store dog food. Considering the room rate I was surprised at the lack of amenities. There was no dog bowl for water or anything for Fido to sleep on. There are plenty of very good local options at half the price that welcome dogs. You can however book a days fishing direct with the hotel and although it wasn’t mentioned by reception, entrance to Haddon Hall is free if you stay there no dogs there either even in the grounds . No EV car charger but one at the pub next door. The staff were nice but I wouldn’t book again."

"Stayed recently on a two night walking break in the area. The place is absolutely fantastic, the staff are all friendly , professional and very helpful. The room was immaculate and the food at breakfast delicious. The cleanliness of the whole establishment is a credit to the staff, every area was spotless. Even the car park ! I would definitely recommend this place and will be back. Great place with fantastic food and professional service. Rooms: Spacious , very clean and a great bathroom. Comfy bed. Nearby activities: Great walking area and close to Buxton, Bakewell etc Food drinks: Great menu and very good quality. Noteworthy details: Friendly and helpful staff"

"During a day trip to Matlock, we stumbled upon Viva Italian. We didn't have a reservation, but they were able to accommodate us. The restaurant had a lovely ambiance, with friendly and helpful staff. The food was exceptional, with delicious flavors and beautiful presentation. We will definitely be returning, but next time we will make sure to book in advance so we don't miss out."

"Shared a lovely meal here with my friend. Hadn't been here for years we were not disappointed. Booked online had quick reply, staff friendly welcoming, very cosy pub atmosphere, everyone was having a good time, very nice that dogs are allowed in they were very well behaved. I had chicken curry with rice nan could of had chips, or half rice half chips, which was a nice choice) the curry was full of flavours not dry at all as some can be, rice was very fluffy light. my friend had sausage, veg giant Yorkie, choice of mash or chips, she had chips, it was a very large portion, we both enjoyed our meals. The menu was quite a wide choice for saying it's a small pub, we both had lemon meringue for pudding, it was lovely lemony in the middle, the meringue was soft not hard which was different as mine always go rock hard. The young girl who served us was marvellous, she was taking food orders, bringing food out serving the bar, that's multi tasking !! We have now booked a group Xmas meal in December which has realy good choice. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you."

"Excellent saturday pub lunch, not empty but not busy. Bar service was quick and drinks quenched our thirst. The menu isnt huge but to me that indictates its freshly cooked. "Went for our sons 16th birthday. Fire was lit, great atmosphere and the food was amazing. My only ask would be more vegetarian options, I really wanted a pie but it was game rabbit, I asked for halloumi kebab but it was out of stock, then quiche but it was bacon. We all loved the food we had, great service."

"Cozy nice space. We had dinner there at 7:45pm on a Saturday. There was only one person working front of house for 10ish tables. I felt bad for her! As a result service was low took about an hour and a half for two ppl to eat and pay, no cocktails or desserts and a little spotty for example once the food was served, she never checked back in and we couldn’t catch her eye so our fish fry went without tartar/anything to dip it in, not a huge deal, just bland. . The potato leek soup was too salty. One note that I missed on the entrees: they come with a huge serving of boiled potatoes and veg. Also very bland and just unexpected, it was a lot of food and much went to waste there were 6+full sized boiled yellow potatoes! I think the experience might be better for breakfast or lunch. When we stopped in to make a reservation earlier in the day, we got greeted by the on site dog which I loved."

"Well, where do I start Nice comfortable atmosphere, me and my business partner opted at the specials board after a meeting locally, I had a barbecue pulled pork baguette which was delicious, very filling, comes fries and lovely homemade coleslaw, my partner had beef bourguignon with the mustard mash, very flavoursome and the beef cooked exceptional I feel like I could bring clients here for a meal after another meeting Looking forward to trying more from the menu as some of the other guests meals looked well prepared and smelt delicious This is definitely a fantastic find I will be returning promtu"

"Had a lovely visit this week, been in the past and didn't have a very good experience. Clearly a new team in and 100% better experience! Food was outstanding and the staff and service was first class! Loved the small touches of the seasonal decor, even the little Christmas corner advertising Christmas dining was well presented. "Disappointing... On arrival, we were told that we 'd have to be in the function room... reading elsewhere, it seems that on line booking doesn 't actually go through to the pub (or be actioned , so no restaurant tables are allocated. Seems like the system is broken from the outset. However, what followed was almost comical 8pm on a Saturday, and they 'd 'run out ' of prawns for the surf 'n 'turf... that 's OK, we ordered steaks x 4, confirming whether we wanted skinny fries or chunky chips and all was good. Only it wasn 't... they 'd run out of steaks and only had one left! So we reordered, again going through the scenario of skinny chips vs chunky chips and I 'd asked to swap the cheese on a burger to stilton. 'Oh, that sounds amazing ' said the waitress, 'but he may want to charge you more '. For a swap..? OK, go for it... Food arrives despite the order taking (which was on the bill when it arrived later , we 'd all got skinny fries, irrespective of earlier choices... oh, and no substitution of the cheese. Ordering desserts, one of the party asked for crumble... 'Custard or ice cream with that? ' 'Can I have both possibly? ' We fell around... ah, that 'll be extra!! Of course not despite the waitress asking for it (and, once again, we 'd have understood if there was a small charge... , it turned up with just custard and no comment apology explanation. It 's a shame the service is willing and friendly, but clearly the chef management have a lot to learn about offering hospitality and a welcome that goes above and beyond the transactional relationship of 'here 's your menu... '"

"After finishing our walk and feeling hungry, we planned to get takeout Indian food. However, we found out that the Indian restaurant was closed. We were pleased to discover many other dining options and decided to book a table at Derwentwater, a dog-friendly restaurant. It was a great choice despite a bit of a wait for our food, which was understandable due to the staff shortage. The service was still excellent, with just two servers attending to a full restaurant. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely, and the prices were reasonable. We felt very relaxed and would definitely recommend this restaurant."
