"We live about 25 miles from East Bridgford and have friends who live nearby and also in Newark on Trent, and have once previously called in to the Royal Oak for a drink. Today however we had lunch with our friends and it was absolutely marvellous. I had reviewed the menu beforehand and it looked good but I was expecting decent pub fare. My expectations were exceeded. The meals we enjoyed were superb restaurant quality and tasted delicious. This marvellous food was matched with friendly relaxed and happy service which always makes a good meal go very well. I had a lovely light starter of three types of beetroot with goats cheese in a light dressing which was fresh and very, very tasty. To follow, I chose a smoked haddock with green beans in a mustard cream sauce which perfectly cooked and was better than delicious. It was sublime. (It’s normally served with new potatoes but I am avoiding potatoes . My friends variously enjoyed tempura king prawns with chilli dip, braised lamb with mashed potato, steak and ale pie, and fish and chips and one even made it to a sticky toffee pudding finale. Everything was enjoyed. The invisible team in the kitchen deserve 11/10 for the food offer and the full Royal Oak team get five stars+ from us for the whole experience. We will be back. (PS. "After exploring all the cafes in the village of Bingham, my partner and I were amazed by the menu displayed on the cafe window here. With Greek inspired breakfasts and lunches, we knew we had found something special. The chef and waitress went above and beyond to accommodate my vegan requirements, which I was extremely impressed by. The portion sizes for the omelette and gyroks were generous and offered great value for money. We also enjoyed delicious smoothies and 200degree coffee with no complaints. We believe we have discovered our new favorite local cafe. Thank you to the staff at the cafe for a wonderful dining experience! - Rob Liss"

"Disappointed this time whent today at 1pm, when we've been before the place has been very busy, not this time ,to say it was a Bank Holiday, it was very quiet, ther was only a couple in at 1 pm, the bartender told us the special was fish pie, we don't eat red meat, the wife doesn't like batter on fish, so she ordered the fish pie I had fish and chips, my dinner ok, but the wife's fish pie to much salt, not much fish a lot of mash cheese, the seasonal veg nearly cold, but worst of all was the bartender came to the next table said the special was fish pie chicken mushroom pie, now if he had told us that we both would have had it,that's our favorite, have a chance next week."

"We had a fantastic dining experience last night! The staff were incredibly friendly, and the food was excellent. The extensive gluten-free menu offered a delightful selection of hot cheese starters, and the steak and ale pie was delicious—perfectly cooked alongside well-prepared vegetables. It was just what we needed for a chilly winter evening. The lovely ice cream served in a charming sunflower bowl was a perfect finishing touch. Dining in a combination of a cookhouse and brewery is always a treat!"

"I have visited this restaurant several times and the food and service are always top-notch. However, I believe the prices for wine are extremely high. I ordered a large glass of house red wine and was charged £9, which was quite surprising. In comparison, a large glass of wine at a well-known French restaurant chain in the center of Nottingham is around £6.95. Even in supermarkets, a good Shiraz can be found for around £5-£6. Additionally, there didn't seem to be a house wine option, as all bottles were priced at £24, which is on the expensive side. This may be expected in a high-end London restaurant, but not in Bingham. I will not be ordering wine from this restaurant in the future, as the mark up seems excessive and takes advantage of customers."
