"We ate at this restaurant prior to a visit to the museum at Kreismuseum Wewelsburg. It was a lovely summer afternoon so we sat outside in the nice beer garden. I had booked a table, thinking it may be busy during a Sunday lunch time but actually there was no need as no one was sitting inside and there were a few free tables outside. The service was friendly and attentive; the staff speak a little English and they do provide English menus and with our basic German, we got on just fine. The inside of the restaurant is a time warp, with many of the items dating back to prior to World War 2 and they also have the original pews from the SS era (the owner will show you the original Nazi carvings if you are interested). The venue was the “village community house” during the Nazi era and was intended as the village’s cultural focal point (as defined by the SS), hence the presence of the pews. Due to the glorious weather, no one was sitting inside but this would be an excellent place to dine in the colder months. The staff were very accommodating and had no problem with us sharing one starter between three (being aware of just how generous portions can be in typical German restaurants). We shared the house appetizer variety, which consisted of mini chicken spring rolls, cold meats, cheeses and grilled vegetables; it was okay but a bit of a strange mix of German and Asian cuisine. For the mains we had pork medallions with mushroom sauce and mini potato rosti as well as schnitzels and chips. I also had a warm apple strudel with vanilla ice-cream and cream. The food was as expected; hearty, tasty and generous. The restaurant is set in a very pleasant village, worthy of a look around, when visiting the Kreismuseum in Wewelsburg."
