This place used to be very good, but in my recent visit, we were disappointed. The food and service was not great, the staff didn’t speak English.

Third time eating at El ancla over last 15 years and was a bit disappointed. Had the parrillada argentina and tomato salad with cantabrian anchovies as that’s what I had last time I was here (4 years ago) and quality has dropped. Parrillada was dry and overcooked and the cuts used were fatty and cheap. The salad was ok but only about 4 anchovy fillets on a huge salad and the tomatoes were virtually tasteless. Miguel, no se puede ser más profesional. Cuando estaba recién puesta la ensalada de tomate, aguacate y pulpo, la chica de la mesa de al lado, por accidente, tiró el servilletero con tan mala suerte q cae en nuestra mesa rompiendo una copa. No dudaste en cambiarlo todo, ensalada, tapa de quisquillas, cervezas e incluso el mantel y no conforme con ello, a la hora de pagar nos dices q no nos cobras la segunda ronda. I've known this hotel/restaurant for over 25 years, in fact since I moved to this area, and have enjoyed many celebratory meals here. Sadly my work schedule seldom allows me to stop off in Calahonda to eat, but a visit by family from the UK provided the excuse to revisit El Ancla, and we weren't disappointed. Our various tastes, from traditionally English to typically Spanish, were all catered for, with a bit of Italian thrown in, and we all ate well too well in fact as most of us we were defeated by the large servings.
