"…from the centre of Oxford, it is well worth the walk. The menu is creative and imaginative, with classics and well chosen simple fare – roast chicken, Toulouse sausages as well as a range of more adventurous dishes – stone bass, lamb roulade. I had a prawn, crayfish and avocado dish with some well hidden and delicious remoulade below the surface that was very well flavoured and succulent. The service was prompt and efficient, but not unduly friendly and sometimes somewhat curt. Coupled with the rather brutal acoustics and several shouty groups it made polite – meaning quiet – conversation rather hard. The return schlep to the heart of town was both required and essential."

A 'grown up ' restaurant half hour walk from city centre. Great staff, friendly and professional. Nice ambience. Had souffles for starter and dessert both really good. Main course good tasty but not special. Nice place for a relaxed dinner

Another fantastic lunch. The duck leg was delicious and my husband had hake with muscles in a sauce which he thoroughly enjoyed. The crumble was superb. Fantastic service. One of our favourite restaurants in Oxford. Sunday lunch is also amazing. Voir le carte

Our visit was OK some dishes were off the menu however which was disappointing as it isnt that extensive to start with. Also one dish ordered was exceptionally hot and burnt the mouth. Now I realise that baked dishes have to be hot but this was excessive needing to wait 15 minutes for it to cool is not the norm and one of us had eaten our meal by the time the other had started. Overall we were not as impressed here as we had been in Winchester last year

The food was excellent. What spoilt the whole experience was being asked at the end of the meal would we like anything else, coffee drinks etc. by the same guy on two separate occasions. The restaurant was still busy but we had the feeling he wanted us out! This was confirmed when he presented us with the bill without anyone asking for it! As we walked out he had his coat on about to leave confirming our thoughts he wanted to head off. The restaurant was still busy. We all had three courses, champagne and good wines and disappointing that as soon as we had finished spending we had to be out of the door. Just turned 10pm.

"I've been going to Oxford for 3 years now and in that time to be frank struggled to find a decent go to restaurant. I can now say with delight i've found my destination. I present SPICED ROOTS a little caribbean culinary gem. The fresh perfectly cooked food is absolutely delicious and gives off that home cooked by mummy vibe and is beautifully presented. The chilli and garlic prawns had my eyes closed Mark Weins style (if you know you know) so juicy with an incredible depth of flavour, the Trini doubles not only were seasoned to perfection they left you wanting more and the Jerk chicken spring rolls were an absolute triumph. For mains we had the ackee and callaloo Jerk Tempah (vegetarian) and the Jerk chicken. Both came with rice peas, plaintain and salad. Not only were the portions huge the flavours of both dishes were just mind blowingly delicious. Then we embarked on dessert and had the beautiful spiced rum cake and a selection of 3 home made ice creams namely Coconut, Guinness and the old Caribbean favourite Rum and Raisin, all recommended by the owner. It's at this point I feel compelled to speak about the rum raisin ice cream. I've eaten this ice cream on numerous occasions at numerous locations in Jamaica over my many years and I tell you no word of a lie this was hands down the best rum and raisin ice cream I've ever tasted, it literally left us speechless. So to summarise, this place has great food, great music, great service and a wonderfully charming owner who's totally invested in serving great, incredibly tasty, authentic Caribbean food clearly prepared with love. What more could you ask for. Fair to say it was meant to be. Uncle Jay."
