"Arrived at restaurant and we were greeted by girl behind bar. Told her we had a booking to be told come with the shake of her head . Were sat in restaurant away from bar. The hotel and restaurant is lovely in itself. We get that it’s a fishing lodge and country hotel and dogs are welcome. Most dogs were well behaved but one in particular would not stop barking as other customers were arriving with their dogs. Not a nice quiet meal and not good press for said country hotel. At least 6 times during our hour and half visit this dog barked My hubby had a lovely starter of black pudding scotch egg . Then steak pie for main I had sirloin steak which was good. Chips bought in were absolutely awful so much so I said to a lovely wee waitress and she got them replaced . Menu not brilliant. Won’t be rushing back. Meikleour used to be the place to go what a shame that standards have slipped."

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at this restaurant and we were very disappointed. His steak pie had a flat pastry and only about four pieces of steak. All bottles of wine were priced at £34 with no other options available, making both the meal and wine overpriced.

Dropped in for refreshments later afternoon and was immediately taken by the ambience, clean decor and welcoming staff. Driving I had a Diet Coke and for a treat I had wonderful carpaccio of beef. Spotless toilets and a definate destination for a visit later this year perhaps even for a staycation.

I was in Scotland with my husband and 3 children and we were driving by and spotted the pub. My experience was delightful the food was fresh and delicious, and it was an all round success. Service was very good and the stuff were all polite and a joy to speak to. The setting of this pub is gorgeous and we will definitely be returning swiftly for another great evening! Voir le carte

In terms of the food, the chicken was nice and tender but had a burnt coating, the Yorkshire pudding was dry which made us think it wasn't fresh, and the sticky toffee pudding was clearly overdone in the microwave. We are generally easy to please, but this experience left us feeling very frustrated. We're not sure what went wrong, but we left the restaurant feeling disappointed.

Definitely not closed! Stopped off for lunch and it was wonderful. I had the baked Blue Ling which was perfectly cooked, seared lettuce and fragrant jasmine rice. The whole experience really tasty cooked by a talented chef who knows what they’re doing. My wife had two veggie starters of which the star was the gnocchi. Clean, relaxed, friendly staff and good food. What’s not to like?

My friends and I had lunch at this restaurant on Sunday. We felt rushed throughout the entire meal by the waiter and waitress. One of the Sunday roasts was partially cold and the chicken was overcooked. Additionally, one of the sticky toffee puddings was completely dried out. It would have been helpful if they had communicated upfront that our table was only reserved for a limited period of time. Voir le carte

Went with family for a Sunday roast dinner the soup to start was lovely The cheese soufflé was only Luke warm and not nice at all. The roast potato potatoes weren’t roasted at all they were just white and hard. The meat quality wasn’t very good. We asked for extra gravy as the lunch was very dry and they charged us an extra £5 for a tiny jug of gravy. Not a great meal when the staff came to pick my plate of food up which I hadn’t eaten. All they said was was it too much for you but I had asked if I could have some roasted potatoes and they just told me that’s how their potatoes come.. wished I had taken photos so I could share.

Stopped in for a bite to eat and my wife and I each had fish and chips. Chips were ok, mushy peas good however the fish badly let the show down. The batter, although crispy, was 'heavy ' and had a strong taste plus was very greasy. The fish on one of the plates was passable however my wifes was grey and did not look fresh at all. We tried to give our dog a bit of the fish and she turned up her nose at it!! For just under £17 for each 'meal, The Meikleou Arms needs to up the ante somewhat and until it does we won 't be back!! Such a pity that the food didn 't come up to the same levels of service as the waiting staff who were excellent.

"We stumbled across this place on the last night of a fortnight in Scotland and couldn 't be more glad that we did and that they had space. We were seated promptly (underneath the fan thankfully considering the heatwave), asked whether we 'd eaten there before (we hadn 't), had the menu explained to us (suggested 3 tapas per person) and then left alone briefly to consider the menu. Once ordered, drinks were delivered in a timely fashion, followed by breads dips to tempt tide us over until our tapas arrived. It wasn 't very quick, but I didn 't think it was unduly long either just the right length of time for non fast food that is being prepared freshly. And when it arrived, we were delighted as it was delicious! The only slight disappointment was that salted cod wasn 't available, but that was soon forgotten. My personal favourite was the poached chorizo in red wine with honey glaze, but we were happy with all of our options (patatas bravas, haggis balls, pinchas de pollo, spinach chickpea stew, haddock in red pepper sauce and Spanish tortilla the latter really made by the spicy tomato salsa on the side). 5 between the two of us would probably have sufficed, which would have meant I had space for one of the ice creams, but in hindsight, I 'm glad I didn 't. Excellent service, delicious food, our best meal of our holiday. We probably won 't be back (living in Birmingham and all) but definitely would if we were local."
