"We had a wonderful meal while on a weekend away in Stirling. Despite being incredibly busy with the pre Christmas crowds, the manager managed to find us a table for 8pm. Serving staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. Our food was fantastic and full of flavour the arrabiata was especially good and the bruschetta excellent. The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming and a fellow diner giving an astounding rendition of Nessun Dorma added to the festivities! The staff also deserve commendation for their excellent handling of some extremely drunk customers who having complained about an aspect of their meal (didn’t stop them from eating it,or consuming a fair bit of wine) decided to try to leave without paying. We were close enough to their table to hear this being said. They complained to the server and demanded the manager come out to explain things. Upon speaking with the manager one individual said they weren’t paying (not even one assumes for the wine). This particular individual was fairly belligerent. The manager informed them that police would be called if they refused to pay and after some back and fore the party grudgingly agreed to pay something towards the meal. The fact that this happened in front of other diners must have made the situation more awkward for staff but they dealt with it very well, apologising to the remaining customers afterwards (no apology needed). We will definitely return should we be in Stirling again. Lovely place,"

"Family out for Sunday lunch, one requiring a gluten free meal. We were assured that the grouse on the specials menu was gluten free, so two of us ordered this and we ordered two portions of seasonal veg as extras. The grouse came with a jug of thick white blob, which we were later advised was bread sauce, not mentioned on the menu and clearly not gluten free. The vegetables had thick strands of noodles mixed through them (none of us had ordered noodles . When I complained to the waiter, he took my bowl to ask the chef, before returning with the same bowl saying that the chef said not to worry as they were just stray rice noodles! The waiter was clearly being left to take any flak, so I followed him to the till, to find the manager and chef in the bar. The manager basically said that it was a small kitchen, so you have to expect some cross-contamination (2-inch bits of noodle?! , while the chef brushed it off as just a schoolboy error . (If I 'd wanted my lunch cooked by a schoolboy... Neither the manager nor the chef appeared to grasp the seriousness of serving contaminated food, with the manager repeatedly assuring me that the ingredients were gluten free. Restaurant owners must understand that to label a dish as gluten free , or any allergen free or even NGCI (no gluten-containing ingredients , they are not just saying that they did not intend to include the allergen, but that they had taken measures to prevent contamination by the allergen. Clearly, serving a jug full of the allergen (as happened here is dangerous, but so is having such poor kitchen practices that different meals on the menu get mixed together. Our meal was cut short, as we could not trust any of the dishes to be gluten free; in fact we could not trust any of the dishes to be just what the menu said they were."

"Bit disappointing. We had breakfast here in April ‘23 for convenience, as we stayed at the Premier Inn which we could not fault. The breakfast however was disappointing. Non-dairy milk was provided on request, someone then had to go and look for it, open a pack, gave me enough for one drink, and then put it away again, after having waited for it the first time for a while at the counter, I did not bother with a second drink. It was nowhere near as nice as my coffee machine at home. As the ‘all you can eat’ is no longer self-service, we waited for about half an hour to get our order in, making us a bit late and rushed for our timed-entry at the castle. We’d long finished our drinks and croissants before we finally got to order. I had mentioned earlier to the waiter that my croissant had had a hair in it. He said to put the hair in the bin, I told him the hair was baked into the croissant, he then just pointed at the bin, and told me to have an other one, but I was a bit put off by then. Later someone mentioned that you can also ask to have your croissant warmed up, but this was not apparent from any sign. When my breakfast came it had a bit of cooked plastic into the egg, like from bacon wrapping, I didn’t bother mentioning it, just fished it out, had my breakfast and went. Sausages were nice, and had it been buffet I would have had an other one, so I imagine they save a lot of money by running it this way instead! The rest of the food was pretty mediocre. I won’t be back for breakfast in a hurry, but had a lovely night at the Premier Inn though. As this is very close to the center, if walking is not a problem for you, I’d go somewhere else!"
