"Visited the Greenhill for News Year Day lunch. Special menu for New Years Day with some bold and exciting choices. The hotel is lovely, in a wonderful setting and is very welcoming from the off. On arrival, ample parking, we were shown to our table and offered drinks from an extensive range. The hotel was tastefully decorated for the festive period and is very welcoming. All of the staff are very professional and additionally very attentive and really lovely, nothing is too much trouble. Our starters arrived promptly and all of our group of 6 thoroughly enjoy the starters. Mains came after a break which was just the right length. Most of our group plumped for the full Roast Beef dinner, whilst i had Lemon Sole in lobster and prawn bisque and another of our group had the pork with apple cider cream sauce which he said was really yummy. It was all served on piping hot plates and came with roasted carrots, parsnips and potatoes, boiled potatoes, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire puds for the beef. ALL the food was delicious including the vegetables which all had lots of flavour and were cooked perfectly, and there was plenty of them for all of us to have plenty to eat. My Lemon some was perfectly cooked and the sauce had depth of flavour and plenty of prawns. Everyone loved the food and empty plates went back as proof! Desserts were similarly delicious and devoured. One of our group was really full so they kindly put his in a take away container to take home. I had coffee crème brûlée which was strong with coffee and just the right balance of sweet with a home made shortbread biscuit. An excellent meal in a lovely hotel with excellent attentive and friendly staff and all faultlessly delivered. A marvellous New Years Day lunch thanks everyone."

"I had been wanting to give the new 'Antonios ' restaurant section of the Golden Lion Hotel a taste since it opened and finally got in to use a Christmas voucher with my wife.Hospitality on arrival was good. The place has a modern look.We were shown to our seats at a table for two in the window, which was nice.We were asked if we would like a drink, my wife ordered a cocktail which was fine, but when I asked for a pint of real ale, the response was 'you can get that in the other bar in the main hotel, feel free to walk in and buy one then come back in with it ', to which I responded 'it 's ok, I 'll just do without a drink, thanks ', the staff didn 't seem concerned that a customer wasn 't happy. We ordered the food, it 's a bit on the expensive side, but I already new this, so not a real complaint.I ordered the 'surf and turf ' and asked them if I could choose how the steak part was cooked, the response was 'no ', as the steak comes as strips, but I did think that at least mentioning that I like my normal steak 'blue 'or 'rare ' would mean they would take it into consideration. I also ordered the 'street noodles '.My wife ordered the buttermilk chicken and street fried rice. The food came very quickly, almost too quick to have been cooked from fresh, and we tucked in, it was instantly obvious that they hadn 't listened to me saying that I like rare steak, it wouldn 't of been too bad if the steak had been cooked medium or medium to well done, but it was well done to burned, so I left the steak. The prawns part of the surf and turf was beautiful as was the noodles. My wife enjoyed the chicken and rice as well as the cocktail. When we came to pay, we waited a while and then realised that we had to go to the bar, we had to wait 10 minutes or so as they were serving drinks to others. They gave us the bill, which we paid, but there was no question from them to ask if everything was alright with the meal, so I didn 't mention it as I didn 't feel comfortable enough with all the people at the bar to do so.If they had came to the table and saw that I 'd left the steak and then asked if everything was ok I would of them felt like I could of mentioned the burned steak. My verdict is:Nice, fancy looking place, either understaffed or overworked staff, expensive, small portions."

"Whilst visiting the area I thought I’d have a quick bite to eat here. From its appearance outside I thought it appeared to be a nice quaint little tea room with an appealing cake selection at the front counter. Inside the premises I found it to be very dated and bland. Tables are separated using temporary dividers due to COVID restrictions and are appropriately spaced. Cleanliness wise, the tables and the seats weren’t great and the curtains had a layer of dust on them. A deep clean is really needed. The toilets were satisfactory however there was no soap in the male toilets but there was some hand sanitizer in the communal area outside. The menu seemed quite limited to sandwiches, breakfast menus and toasties. Unsure if this is the norm here but I would have preferred wider selection. Having chosen a toasted sandwich I was quite underwhelmed to say the least. I was disappointed to find that it had just been cooked in a household toastie machine using plain ingredients. Again the cake I chose looked better than it tasted however it wasn’t too bad. Staffing wise I don’t have too many complaints however I feel a little more organisation wouldn’t go amiss as I had three different waitresses during my meal with one forgetting my cutlery. I thought it was quite expensive for what I actually had especially when the food lacked quality and the cleanliness/ condition of the premises."
