"We visited between Christmas and New Year on a lunchtime after a walk with our 3 dogs. The pub was pretty busy but we found a table that was in a corner so out the way of other people tripping over our four legged friends....However after a bit we were asked to move to a smaller table right in a corridor because the lady said they needed the table of 6 for bigger parties. It was difficult to cram us all round this and out the way of everyone but we persevered. We ordered food (2 starters and some chips) and after waiting about 25 minutes chased a waitress to find out where it was and were told it would be 5 minutes. In the meantime people who came in after us were getting served main courses. We waited another 20 mins and then got up to ask for a refund as we genuinely had an appointment to get to. The food was actually ready as we got up to leave so we ate it. The food was distinctly average and we left feeling hard done by and not wanting to return. It’s a shame as it’s a nice looking pub in a good location."

We ate here 3 nights in a row. Lovely food, good portions and not overpriced. Fast, attentive service.

Turned up here late and hungry after a long journey. We were welcomed in and served quickly. The fish and chips were superb. Good local beer and friendly service.

Accommodation was lovely and clean. Great assortment of continental and cooked breakfast in the morning. Had dinner there one night and the watermill chicken was absolutely divine. Can't fault anything. Staff were friendly and attentive.

4 adult and a labrador for lunch today, friendly staff eating was great, only moan my sirloin was a cut away to close to the nativity, if I pay 25 pounds for a sirloin I would like to pay a thick 8oz cut not a minute steak. the food was on the spot. visit us again

We came in after a walk with the dogs, sat in the room with lovely warm fire going.. the service was very friendly, my partner sat to enjoy all the traditional ales they had on offer that they brew themselves.. we then had a bite...to eat both had burgers, they weren’t too bad slightly over cooked for us but nothing to complain too much about.. we would go back.

Stunning pub very homely with the fire a glow. Good service and pleased to see covid precautions still being taken . The beer is brewed on site very reasonable and good quality . The food again was reasonable in price but superb quality , best...steak pie I have tasted full of flavour without just being salty like so many places. 100% happy as were my 3 mates. We came by bus which stops outside and is very regular .

only from a stay a few days in the water mill back. the room (2) was really nice and very clean. we have eaten many times before when we are staying with related and have never been disappointed with eating or service. This...time we enjoyed both the breakfast and the evening meal from a varied menu and a special board and again everything was excellent. there was also a brilliant selection of beer from their pre-site brewery, which were also first class. we will definitely return

we are prepared here at a visit in ings and during a visit in kendal in this week (13th april 2022). it is busy trying to book. it is a beautiful local pub with really good food. great value for money and a beautiful atmosphere. there are many parking spaces. as they were busy, there was a 45-minute waiting, but we were informed when we were asked for a table, so were okay with him and it was waiting for every case. we had various meals steak and colly wobble pie, bacon burger and hunters chicken. we all enjoyed them and would definitely return. large portions and very tasty. worth visiting and only about 15 minutes from windermere and kendal.

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
