"University hangovers became synonymous with breakfasts at Trof. They do a kick-ass **** Mary and absolutely legendary full English breakfasts. Served until 4pm, the portions are the perfect size and never too greasy so you can be sure you won't be tipped over the edge! They also do a mean burger. In fact, I think Trof was the first place I tried one that came in a brioche bun, and they really set the bar for me. The roasts also stand out and epitomise everything that's great about proper homemade food. The staff are all young and achingly cool making them the perfect fit for the ultra hip Northern Quarter. The decor is more on the studenty side of rustic but nonetheless it's warm and welcoming to a variety of clientèle. It's always a refuge away from the almost incessant rain in Manchester and an absolute must visit."

Wednesday nights are now slider time upstairs in Trof's new bourbon bar and their main menu burger seems to have undergone a good-taste makeover too...

good place to eat late, drink and dance some English typical music! the place is cool and trendy. the only problem is the smoke in the first floor where everyone dances and drinks.

Great breakfast. During a morning meeting in town a quick show of hands revealed an overwhelming urge (some said need for a big breakfast. Trof is the place. Go and eat it. That is all ;

Food high points: the French Toast itself was well prepared – if there was a berry option I’d definitely try to get into Manchester early more often. Food low points: banana as a topping on the toast was always going to be a disadvantage but I would have liked it better with a little extra cinnamon and a more viscous syrup.

Halloumi Shroomi Burger Halloumi Shroomi burger is made out of halloumi cheese which is originally salty savoury tangy and hard enough to be chargrilled. Its so yummy and feels like a creamy cheese burst in every bite. Chargrilled halloumi, portobella mushrooms, garlic parsley butter with some aged cheddar, flame roasted red pepper, yogurt aioli, green herbs, lettuce pickles- All of this in a fresh brioche bun with yummy salty fries. Just like the ingredients, its a food flavor bomb for every vegetarian. Ambience Service: Hipster pub feel. Price: £9

"Alborz is a wonderful hidden gem in Levenshulme that serves a variety of Persian and Middle-Eastern food, located on Stockport Rd you could be forgiven for thinking that Alborz is as unassuming as it's humble exterior suggests. However, what lies behind those modest doors is truly fantastic restaurant both in terms of food and service. The interior is understated and tasteful, furnished with Persian vases and ornate tea sets, the tables are close together to make the most of the limited space available but this lends a refreshing communal atmosphere to your meal. The staff were friendly and attentive and more than happy to talk you through the menu and explain the various dishes. We ordered the Mezze Platter to start, this consists of four different starters, and is ideal if you're not overly familiar with Persian cuisine, the homemade hummus was a particular highlight being both fresh and tasty. We then ordered the Alborz special grill for two, which looks as wonderful as it tastes, succulent skewers of koobideh and chicken accompanied by grilled vegetables, saffron rice and a freshly baked taltoon bread which was frankly quite ridiculous in its magnificence and is so large it came supplied with its own stand. This was a true delight to eat and I can highly recommend it. After all of that, we were overloaded with food and couldn't possibly consider having dessert and so, asked for the bill, which led to true surprise of the evening, all of this wonderfully authentic and fresh food came to a grand total of £42. This reflects tremendous value in a time where a meal for two can often prove quite expensive. Overall I would say that Alborz is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and if you're not well then it's worth making the trip for. If you're a fan of Persian food or perhaps want to try something new then you would genuinely struggle to find such a quality dining experience at this price point."

"I've been to a couple of different Dishoom branches a few times and have never been disappointed by the breakfast options. The sausage naan roll is excellent. A couple of really tasty vegan sausages with some melted vegan cheese all wrapped up in a lovely soft naan and served with some sort of sweet chilli dipping sauce. My go to now is usually the vegan Bombay. It's a good hearty breakfast plate with... a couple of the same well seasoned vegan sausages. Some vegan tofu akuri a nicely spiced tofu scramble. Some very well cooked mushroom slices (that are maybe a wee bit under seasoned). The baked beans are really nicely spiced, elevating them far beyond the standard sweet sauce fare that's the usual. A few slices of well flavoured black pudding (that could be fried to being a bit crispier). A cooked tomato which is a bit dull, I've never been keen on tomatoes on my breakfast plate and this once has not changed my mind. It could do with some more charring and maybe some spicing. To help you mop everything up, the whole thing is served with a couple of soft bread buns that have been nicely toasted. I usually top the whole thing off with some chocolate chai with oat milk you get free refills for your chai. Unfortunately, it isn't wheelchair accessible. There are stairs up into the restaurant and various small flights of stairs to get to different parts of the restaurant. Updated from previous review on 2024 03 25"
