"We hit the Wheatsheaf on a Saturday evening after we'd found other pubs shut their kitchens. It's an honest town pub, kept St Austell Tribute pale ale well, and had a straight-forward menu. It's not a foody pub, it's not a football-on-TVs- everywhere pub, it's...got a petanque patch, a giant chess set and a thoroughly relaxed attitude. I felt at home there, and not out of place, as one can find in some small places. We had filled jacket potatoes with our choice of fillings. They were freshly cooked and not re-heated from days ago, and on a hot evening away from home, the Wheatsheaf shone. Oh, it's not desperately modern or quaint or , it's an honest town pub. Recommended."

Today our group of eight again visited here,I had a large cod, garden peas and chips for a change, followed by a very large Belgian Waffle ,two scoops of vanilla ice cream and maple syrup. The lunch was very hot had to wait a little while for it...to cool down, really enjoyed it. Washed down as usual with a pint of beer shandy.Full marks for the chef and service.

can not beat the wheatsheaf, it is a good old fashion pub with a bar and lounge areas separated by a glass and wood partition. eating is a great pub food with the best omelettes in thornbury. it has a conical path and a pool space away. of the bars. some of the beers is a bit expensive compared to other thornbury hostelries, but it is worth the ambiente des pubs. the log fire is very welcome on a cold february day.

in the last weeks we enjoyed our Sunday roast in the wheatsheaf. the food has always been excellent, the veg fresh, the bratkartoffeln crispy and the homemade yorkshire puddings are beautiful. Today we had the bubble boar, for a change, it...was simply the best booze I ever had, nice delicate, but the crunchy was crisp as it should be. if they are after a proper frying dinner, there are no frozen, reheated müll here, the wheatsheaf is absolutely the best place to go.

Another pub that could so easily be better but they start off with a very unimaginative menu. Chicken wings for a starter at not for me. Either it's a very large portion or grotesquely overpriced. Fish and Chips good. From a very limited...list of puddings Belgian waffle and ice cream with maple syrup sounded the best it wasn't as the texture of the waffle was like rather stale bread. I thought the lady so busy cleaning the tables' when so obviously busy listening to our clearly fascinating conversation was going to draw up a chair and sit down with us.

the sign outside says “good food”, but this is a massive understatement. Sunday dinner (we had bark and black versions) was phenomenal. both meats were excellent quality cuts and became perfection, as delicate as they come. the companion was beautiful and...fein, not cooked to tasteless oblivion like some places. nice hauch was the extra heavy jug, if necessary. the place itself was beautiful and traditional looking, with friendly and helpful staff. Price-quality ratio also excellent, I paid more than twice their prices for meal times, which were a tenth of the quality. Voir le carte

"Went for an impromptu meal with her indoors, as this was a local pub we've not been in for a long time we thought will pop in. Greeted by an over enthusiastic bar person who was dragging out the empties from the night before, ordered a couple of drinks and we sat down with the menu's, after perusing the menu we were ready to order, at the same time we were ready a regular couple walked in and sat at there regular table and oredered there regular meal, but the regular gentleman actually wanted an extra sausage with his sausage and chips, well! The kerfuffle this caused was astronomical, this conversation went on for Many many minutes, my wife and I was desperately trying to catch her attention to have another drink, eventually my wife went to the bar and waited, we got served eventually. Then our food came out of the kitchen, we went for the light bites as we were in a snacky mood, Chicken strips Mozzarella bites Chips with curry sauce and nachos. We never got the nachos as there was no guacamole BTW Chips came out which were actually fries, covered in this sauce, gross, then we had 3 chicken strips with no garnish £4.95 £1.63 each Then 4 mozzarella bites came out, no, nothing else just 4 mozzarella bites, £4.95 £1.24 each. So if you want have your pants pulled down and be robbed of your hard earned cash then this is the place to go, as for me and my wife we won't be. We did mention the poor quality and value for money but it was brushed under the dirty carpet and she was going to feed our comments back to the kitchen."

"I was excited to revisit the New Inn after many years, as it used to be a favorite spot of mine. My group of 8 had pre-ordered at the request of the New Inn, but we were told 15 minutes after our booking time that our food was just being prepared. An hour later, our food still hadn't been served. After checking with the staff, the manager assured us that our order was next. Another 10 minutes passed before our food finally arrived. The gammon came with sides that we didn't like and were not mentioned on the menu. The portions were oversized, which was nice, but they were too much and off-putting. The salad trimmings were of poor quality. The fish in batter was enjoyed by those who ordered it. The main meals were okay, but I would have preferred better quality over quantity. We had to chase the staff for a glass of water, and even after being offered dessert menus, no one came to take our order. When we decided to follow up at the bar, the manager seemed more interested in finding out which staff member had failed to take our order than in solving the issue. The service was okay but could have been better, as no one checked on us after our meals were served. It seems like the staff could benefit from more positive training from a supportive mentor. When we asked for the bill, it took a while for it to be brought to us, so we ended up paying on the way out. It's a shame, as I had fond memories of the New Inn, but I am unlikely to return after this experience."
