"30th August 2021, we arrived and had a tale booked for 19.30. On arrival and glad to see things have gone back to normality and Darren at his best and remembered and it had been a while, we like a tabe in corners so we...were shown, ordered drinks and then food. Although it was busy the service was superb, both Laura and Darren had time to chat. I ordered for starters, the garlic Mushrooms (No 3) delicious always, for main, I ordered the 16 oz Gamon, Salt and pepper Chips, my wife also Laura ordered the Cumberland sausage with ordinary chips so we could mix . Gammon, Sausage, Chips, veg, tasty, hot, fresh and plentiful, good quality meat and veg used and always a winner. Some restaraunts should take note using cheap products produce rubbish. We look forward to going again soon. Sam."

Now owned by a Kitchen Porter from a Walney pub, thank God the chef from the previous owner is still there as I don't know how a Kitchen Porter would manage even though he likes to say he is a chef (or should I say...chancer), if you order gammon you are expected to pay extra for an egg or pineapple Voir le carte

We visited recently as a family and the food was great but was spoiled for most customers by an over enthusiastic owner (who was obviously Inebriated who constantly walked around the tables being loud brash, and unwelcome, by people trying to enjoy their...evening meal! He constantly turned the music up loud enough to drown out any other conversation than his own! Im sure this constant attention seeking puts people off returning to what really is a fantastic pub restaurant .. I know it has for us!

"We visited our old favourite Hartley’s again this evening for only the second time in 2023. We always have a lovely time here but we are guilty sometimes of forgetting just how good the food is! To put it into context we have become “foodies” over the last few years having been spoiled by annual trips to France and a few Michelin Star experiences in the UK. Tonight we went back to the fabulous friendly and laid back experience that epitomises our favourite local restaurant, Hartley’s. From the minute we walked in, it was the usual friendly welcome and banter and wow was the food “on point”. Mrs D had the bruschetta freeing me to have the Squid and both were fabulous. Let’s be honest I don’t really like salad, but the one they do with the squid I could happily just eat on its own and with the pickle it so complements the subtle taste of the squid. For mains I had the sublimely balanced gammon with cream sauce, poached egg potatoes and cabbage. How well each element complements one another, The better half enjoyed the Seabass, which from my shared forkful was equally lovely. I had the delicate rhubarb and ginger crumble for pud while the missus had STP. All washed down with a lovely Chilean Merlot! What a fabulous evening! I said to JD “sometimes we do forget just how good this place is” 5 stars tonight only because I couldn’t give 6!"
