"However, the real highlight was undoubtedly the food. The chef is well-known for his focus on flavor and clear passion for culinary arts. The lamb was cooked to perfection, and the gravy was on par with what I've had in top-notch restaurants. Even the onion rings were crispy, and the roasted tomato soup was bursting with flavor, showcasing a complexity achieved only by someone who truly understands how to create delicious layers in their dishes. We also appreciated that the kitchen stayed open for us, despite our arrival being quite close to 2 PM. Plus, it’s dog-friendly, which is a nice touch!"

I came here about 3 months ago and couldn’t believe that they actually cooked my steak rare. It was genuinely the best steak I’ve had in the UK. I came back tonight and was in disbelief that my steak was as perfect as it was before and even better when sat by the gigantic fire. Love! I’ll be back.

Wow, what a fantastic pub! The staff are lovely, the menu is impressive, and the food is absolutely delicious. The bao buns are a must-try, and the fish and chips are enormous and incredibly fresh. The outdoor tent area is really cool, offering plenty of space both inside and outside. Highly recommend!

Went for a meal at the Boot last week. Had fish and chips, my favourite here and in my opinion the best around. Also tried the croissant based bread and butter pudding. Its very light and flavoursome and while I don't normally have a sweet this was very good. As usual, friendly reception, good service and nice wine.

We enjoyed a delightful Sunday lunch with hearty portions, delicious vegetables, and perfectly cooked meat. The staff was very attentive and answered my questions about gluten-free options, which were plentiful, so I didn't feel like I was missing out at all! New friendly owners who have made a tasteful upgrade to the interior which still maintains the special character of the pub. We visited on a Friday lunchtime with both fireplaces on offering a warm welcome. Great selection of local ales from the West Berkshire Brewery. Good food menu offering something for everyone and it would be good to see a selection of classic English pub sandwiches as an alternative to the more modern choices.

I had a wonderful Christmas dinner experience. The food was excellent, with delightful snacks already on the table when we arrived. The ambience was both traditional and warm, creating a lovely atmosphere. We were comfortably seated next to the log fire, which added to the charm of the evening. This pub truly exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it. Thank you for providing such a memorable Christmas experience that we'll cherish.

"When we arrived, we tried to make a reservation but couldn't get through by phone. Fortunately, there was no problem getting a table as it was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. We ordered four venison dishes and two duck dishes, which soon arrived. Unfortunately, all of the venison meals were cold, including the mashed potatoes. We spoke to our waitress about this, and she assured us she would take care of it. The dishes came back, and as we dug in again, we found they were still lukewarm. The venison itself was tougher than I remembered from my previous visit. I mentioned this to our waitress, and in response, we received some complimentary French fries, which the kids loved and were hot—unlike the mashed potatoes. To her credit, the waitress apologized again and mentioned that to make up for the cold venison and mash, she had arranged free desserts for all of us, which was a nice touch. The desserts were delightful; the ice cream profiteroles were a hit with both the kids and the adults. The meal would have easily earned five stars if the main courses had been hot. It’s disappointing because I truly enjoy the location and the home-cooked quality of the food. I hope my experience was just a fluke, but with the current challenges facing restaurants, it's essential to be consistently at your best. Everyone is feeling the pinch these days, and a negative experience could prevent us from returning."
