"Overall the stay here was just OK. On the positive side, the owner and staff were all truly lovely, friendly and helpful. However, we encountered a few issues. Firstly, our room was tiny, which you would expect in an old coaching inn... but there was no room to swing a cat (or weekend bag)! It also looked like our room was cleaned a few weeks ago and left to gather dust. It felt quite unclean there were lots of hairs behind the sink, dust everywhere and old sticky ring marks from glasses on the bedside tables. Then, we had an early sitting for dinner and they had already run out of several dishes on New Year’s Eve!!! It wasn’t that big a menu! So bizarre! We were only there for a night but even the next morning, wish that there had been more made of a communal area for staying guests. We also didn’t feel like it was a locals’ pub there were very few people gathered at the bar and the atmosphere wasn’t hugely inviting either (in a decorative sense). Don’t really feel that the website/reviews were representative of the reality. Needs a bit of an update to compete with the kind of quality gastropubs in Kent/East Sussex. Quite disappointed. Shame, as the team were genuinely very good."

Visited with friends and found the place to be really beautiful, so much character with all the nooks, cranes, and decor. I could have just sat there and enjoyed the inside. Food was well prepared and tasted good. Would go back again.

We stayed overnight in a beautifully made Emperor bed, had the most delicious fish pie listening to changing vinyls on the turnstile. Timeless atmosphere and marvellous scrambled eggs in the morning. We were attending a preview at the Towner gallery in Eastbourne early evening so what a great way to conclude our trip. Thank you to all.

I made a reservation for lunch and had a fantastic meal. We began with the venison carpaccio, which was delicious - flavorful with a hint of heat from the crust it was rolled in. Next, we had the shepherd's pie, which was incredibly tasty with fresh seasonal vegetables. We also enjoyed a couple pints of Harveys best, which was excellent and clearly from a well-maintained cellar. The service was very friendly and it was great to chat with James Braxton, the owner of this wonderful establishment. I definitely recommend this place and look forward to returning. Thanks! Very disappointed, went on Monday after Christmas, obviously had been busy over Christmas and didn’t really care. Tried to convince me that the soup was squash and lemongrass but was green with celery strands in!! Told the whitebait was breadcrumbed but was paprika floured and fried, smokie had little or no fish in! Cumberland sausage served in a bowl swimming in wine laden gravy. But the steaks were fairly tasty. Waited ages for service and the Barman admitted that the chef was on day off! If you have bookings why wouldn’t you hire even a agency chef. A waste of a evening out.

We arrived at the restaurant at 12:30 on a weekday and were surprised to find that they had run out of bread and sandwiches. R enjoyed the butternut soup with a piece of bread instead of the focaccia listed on the menu. The portion size was small. A had the mac and cheese, which looked nice but was not eaten quickly. T liked the sea bass. O and I were disappointed with the fish and chips as the fish was tasteless. Service was slow and we had to repeat our dessert order twice. A dog was also wandering around our table. However, we did enjoy a delicious cider recommended by the restaurant.

We’re just back from a fantastic weekend at the beautiful bohemian Lamb Inn, Wartling. We stayed in one of their rooms, which was clean and comfy. The food was fantastic and the whole team looked after us brilliantly throughout our visit. Plenty in the local area to do; we tramped about the countryside a bit and had a day being blown along the promenade at Bexhill-On-Sea. Great to come back to a hot shower and have a cosy fireside drink. To top it all off, the vinyl collection is amazingly eclectic and they’re pretty relaxed about you rummaging through! Just a lovely place to stay, with bags of character and warmth. Voir le carte

In the morning, we had the choice of a delicious muesli with fruit compote and yogurt, followed by salmon and eggs or a hearty full English breakfast with orange juice, tea, or coffee. The quality of the food was clearly a priority for the proprietor, James, who uses local produce. Our room was charming and spotlessly clean, with an incredibly comfortable bed and a luxurious shower. The staff, especially a young lady named Crystal, were attentive and went out of their way to please the customers. Thank you to James and his staff for a wonderful stay. This inn is truly a gem, and you must be proud of your achievement.

Lovely main meal of fish chips and sausages, mash veg, just let down by the starter of Sussex Smokey. We’ve had it before in other local pubs and we’ve obviously been spoilt by it having a lot of fish, but there just seemed so little in this fish, also it was served with a very undercooked doughy bread which wasn’t nice. However the main dishes were very good albeit it there’s ironically no Lamb on the menu at the Lamb Inn! the menu is small and could benefit from perhaps a pie on it? That aside the pub itself is a lovely pub, great atmosphere with record player which you can chose your own records love it! and open fires and the barman was very friendly and personable and couldn’t do enough...

"The last time I visited this restaurant was 6 years ago, it WAS a real hidden gem. When I walked in this evening nothing had changed and I was hoping the food would be just as good as I remembered. Service was slow which surprised us as it was a Sunday night and pretty empty. We were given some olives while we ordered (the nicest part of the meal unfortunately). My boyfriend ordered the garlic focaccia with caramelised onion; the bits that had cheese and onion on were very tasty but this was only about 30% of the focaccia, the rest of the bread was over cooked and bland. I ordered bruschetta which was completely underwhelming. 4 small pre sliced bits of stale bread, some chopped up soft tomato and pesto with rocket in the centre. I could have made this at home. For mains I ordered what I always used to have, linguine alla marinara. The portion of pasta was decent, however I only counted 6 pieces of seafood and one large prawn on the top. The menu states it also comes with tomato’s which there were none of. The flavour tasted like buttery pasta with a hint of garlic, again completely underwhelming. My boyfriend ordered spaghetti meatballs. A large portion but completely inedible as it was absolutely disgusting. The sauce tasted like pure tomato purée, so lumpy and stodgy and the meatballs were like nothing we had ever tasted, VILE. We decided to bring the rest of the portion home for my mum (a head chef) to try. We wanted to know what she thought the flavour was as we were confused as to how you can make a meatball taste so vulgar! She spat it out immediately saying it tasted like it had either been cooked in or made with rancid/old fat. The cherry on the top for us was when we asked for the bill. We were given the generic boiled sweets that come with it. 2 of the boiled sweets were in wrappers however there was a third that stuck them all together that was half chewed, out of it’s wrapper. The place was COVERED in cobwebs, decor completely outdated with many flashing lights, menu pages stuck together and stank, looked like they had many a drink spilt over them and not once changed. Don’t even get me started on the toilets! We cleaned our own cutlery it was so filthy and swapped side plates with an empty table next to us as ours had food still on them. Left feeling completely disappointed and are both now suffering with major trumps. Will not be returning again!"

"We had a voucher for a sparkling tea. Reassured by their website that pronounced their covid measurs were above government guidelines I allayed my 93 year olds Mums fear about going. We were able to sit outside which was of much covid reassurance to Mum...And all was well in this wonderful place which Mum pronounced to be 'the real macoy '...they even catered very impressively for my vegan diet...all was well until we paid in the reception lounge. Mum had thought we would not need to hand over our gift card as they had already got our details when we booked on the phone, but not so...she wore her mask, I was lulled into a false sense of security and destracted that Mums very poor hearing meant she had not heard and was about to walk out the door in her unstable on her feet way, as I handed the voucher over minus my mask to the unmasked young man. Mum observed no one in the lounge was wearing a mask, and the young man got very close to me. I do think this is indefensible. Today the government has changed their rules so today they would all have to be wearing their masks, but surely it 's good sense. On reflection I noted our two waitresses were walking pretty close to ' each other too. Most of the clientele seemed to be over 60...surely they have a duty of care. When i check trip advisor for much humbler eating places, alot have staff wearing masks before the government told them they must...WHY NOT HERE!? I did phone them today..I was told staff do get a temperature screen every day ...but that is only an indication. I was impressed they had hands free alcohol gel dispensers, they took our details, wiped our tables and others every hour and after someone has dined. Its a wonderful place which has let itself down."
