"We visited on Mother’s Day as a party of six. We had a nice time and the atmosphere was lovely. Most of us had the roasts, either beef or lamb. The meat was perfectly cooked, as were the vegetables, beautiful crunchy roasties and gorgeous cauliflower cheese. The roasts did not disappoint. Very good. One of our party had a burger which sadly was not enjoyed, he described it as wet and greasy , the grease had saturated the bun. It’s described as coming with all the accompaniments which were really good chips and a dump of rocket on the side of the plate. This is one of our pet hates, no effort or thought into offering a seasoned and interesting little side salad, just rocket is just not good enough. No dressing on that either so that was a disappointment. Starters were fantastic, the chowder and ravioli were very much enjoyed and the Tiramisu and sticky toffee puds were great. Service was fine. 5/6 of us really enjoyed our main courses and the roasts are really very good. Just a shame about the burger."

We had a tremendous dinner, over night and the most terrific Sunday lunch. The slow cooked roast beef was delicious, fresh veg, great freshly cooked roast spuds and cracking gravy! We will be back Voir le carte

We stayed the night in this lovely local pub. Newly refurbished rooms, super clean clean, warm and insulated. Lovely William Morris touches. The Sunday roast was one of the best we have ever had. All very reasonably priced to boot.

We booked a night in one of the rooms so we could have dinner then drinks with friends. The food was great, the staff were all really welcoming then there was the Sunday lunch. It would be fair to say probably the best Sunday lunch I've had in a pub for many a year. Well worth it if you're anywhere near.

We had not made a booking but went early to try and beat any rush. The pub was quiet at 6.30pm but the tables soon filled up and the 'atmosphere ' increased. Drinks and food service were very good and the quality of the food was better than on our two previous visits in the summer. We will definitely go back again soon. Voir le carte

Booked in for a birthday meal on a Friday night in January, assuming it would be quieter after Christmas. But no, a lovely busy atmosphere, restaurant full and lively bar area. Food was fantastic. We were a group of ten, we had starters, main and some also had desserts and EVERY dish was amazing. Staff looked after us really well. High recommend!

There’s nothing like a Sunday Roast or is there? We’ve had a few this winter have mainly been disappointed especially when the price is considered. I understand, as best I can, how tough it is to run a business in hospitality as this time. Recognising the tough climate I’d like to heap praise on the F H for 4 fabulous Sunday Roasts. The 2 lambs were to die for the veg was perfect. The 2 Nut Roasts were tasty, though a little too large our only criticism. Service was great; personable helpful during our stay which lasted 3.5 hours. All this the price was very reasonable. Thank you well done to all at F H. We’ll be back.

"Booked this based on v good trip adviser reviews. Looking at website menu prices the expectation was that this pub is very definitely aimed at the posh end of things. If anything more high end than I wanted that weekend but they had availability where a couple of other pubs on my list didn 't so I went for it anyway and booked. Welcome in the bar was warm, first impression of the formica table and the rather cafeteria glasses plonked on it was rather unsettling but I told myself the food would more than make up for such a trivialities. The wait to order drinks and food was about right. It being a Sunday my Dad and I ordered roast lamb, and my daughter ordered whitebait. The wait for the food was long. The roasts arrived with huge Yorkshire puddings (will never understand that with lamb but not complaining which turned out to be rather crispy, the lamb thinly sliced and swimming in gravy was lovely and tender but was tepid! The vegetables were an uninspired boiled collective including cubes of swede that I haven 't seen or endured since school dinners. The whitebait were rather too large for my 10 year old daughter 's sensibilities but that 's our issue not the Folly 's they were nicely cooked in a spicey batter, but I was expecting the usual 1 2 inch long fish not the 3 inch ones that arrived and she tried to eat them but freaked out and finished off my by now cold lamb so I think I won that exchange ; I made it up to her with a pudding (2 different sorbets which took so long to arrive she had to leave half of it or risk 'brain freeze. ' In a final irony, you know how in some restaurants you are inundated by inquiries as to whether your food is ok? In this case if I had been asked I 'd have sent back the food in favour of something that was actually hot but no one asked, and as my dad is struggling with dementia I wasn 't going to call someone over and cause a scene. Ambience might be good at other times but don 't expect much on a Sunday lunchtime."
