"Came here without a reservation and was seated very quickly despite it being busy, staff were really friendly and we were served promptly. "Bang in Wells Next the Sea is a dog-friendly bistro offering a splendid selection of seafood. The menu blends traditional English dishes with several European and Asian alternatives, such as paella and curry, and includes a daily catch of fish. The beverage options were excellent, especially the wine and the guest ale. The service was friendly, and the food was promptly prepared and served. However, we felt somewhat neglected as the restaurant was preparing for a busy Thursday evening during our visit from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Consequently, the dessert options were limited to ice cream, as the kitchen was gearing up for the evening rush. The staff missed opportunities to offer hot drinks at the end of the meal. The burger was quite enjoyable, albeit slightly overcooked and dry. This tendency to prepare beef well done by default seems common in the area. The fish and chips were also tasty, but don't expect the portion size of a typical fish and chip shop. The side salads were flavorful and fresh. Our 8-year-old son thoroughly enjoyed his seafood platter, with his only comment being that it was a bit salty. Nonetheless, this didn't prevent him from finishing the entire plate. In conclusion, we had a pleasant meal, but it didn't leave us thoroughly impressed, and we departed with a slight sense of disappointment."

"Absolutely amazing Sunday Lunch. We were in the area for the weekend and searched on here for somewhere for a home made Sunday lunch. We weren't disappointed. What a lovely place. Friendly welcome, fabulous decor and an outstanding meal. Possibly the best Sunday lunch I've had for a number of years. We will be back."

"The haddock and chips at this restaurant were incredibly tasty, with a perfectly crispy batter. We decided to dine inside due to the dark and cold weather outside. Unfortunately, a noisy family with loud children sat near us, making it hard to chat. Despite this, we would still come back for the delicious fish and chips that we highly recommend. Service and food both received a rating of 5, while the atmosphere was a 3. The cost per person was between £10-20."

"We had an evening meal at Sands. The restaurant was cold, with only 3 other tables occupied on a Saturday evening. We ordered the ‘special’ King prawns with chorizo, garlic butter and crusty bread. The prawns were not fresh prawns, they were the mass frozen prawns you can buy from cash and carries from Thailand. They had no flavour. The chorizo was the tiny diced chorizo that you can often get from supermarkets, again not very good quality. The bread was packet bread, not even fresh bread from a bakers. The portion was very small, for £8.50 I’d expect good quality food or a decent portion, this was neither. The waiter did not deal with the complaint very well, telling us that no one had ever complained about the dish before he obviously hasn’t looked on here before! We ordered various mains, all were ok. The wine menu was very poor, only about 6 7 choices of red wine, when we ordered a bottle we were told it was not available. Overall we the restaurant lacked atmosphere, the food was below average and the service was not very good. We have visited several pubs in Wells that all served much better quality food, with far better atmosphere and service."
