"A simple but yet fantastic gastro pub The rose and crown is located in the centre of ulverston. The staff. Polite, helpful and friendly they contribute to a very warming atmosphere and engage well with the locals and tourists The food. I had the king prawn starter with chilli and garlic. Great portion, extremely tasty and great value for the price. My only problem was that I couldn’t get enough of it. My main was the panko chicken burger, the chicken was moist the panko batter was perfect, it came with skin on fries and onion rings which accompanied it perfectly (I declined the slaw and veg). The venue The Rose Crown is what a small town pub should be quiet and unassuming from the outside with a very quaint look to friendly and full of atmosphere on the inside. I can understand why the locals enjoy it Overall I will definitely be coming back and wouldn’t just recommend it to friends but I will be suggesting a visit next time I am here with friends."

"Pre booked a table online as I wanted the table for a family retirement meal for my Mum, added into the comments a request to have a couple of bottles of fizz and sharing dessert for our party (which nobody acknowledged), I called a couple of days before to arrange this and pay upfront, I was told we would have two bottles of fizz and 6 glasses ready for us on the table on arrival we didn 't why? Awkward as then the waitress is coming over asking what we want to order to drink I was planning on surprising my Mum with the fizz. Sharing dessert I 'm not sure if there was a miscommunication between us as when it arrived after the meal I 'd question how many people were sharing the dessert. I 've been to the Farmers plenty over the years for food and it 's always been pretty decent, it 's always a good atmosphere etc. Unfortunately on this occasion the food was pretty poor. Two of us ordered the 'tandoori ' chicken kebabs so bland, I 'd question whether the chicken had ever seen any sort of marinade/spice mix. Rice was tasteless and there was a pitiful number of chips for a 'half half ' portion. Mussels again commented on the portion of chips served on the side tight. Fish dish was small but aren 't they always and the Cajun chicken and brisket meals were fine. A shame overall as like I said it 's always a good atmosphere and it is a nice place interior wise. I wouldn 't rush back unfortunately."

"I paid $4.70 for a small portion of very yellow chips and a warm Holland's pie that was not hot. It wasn't the best value for the price. Both the pie and chips tasted bland. The service was okay but not very inviting. I understand that you can't expect much for under five dollars, but I might consider trying somewhere else next time. It seems like they don't have much competition since Bar Conti down the street appears to be closed."

"Oh dear, I found this place on 17th April and was impressed I wrote a glowing review of their great roast dinner. I also came back several times over the past few months. But today’s lunch was such a disappointment. It was a completely new chef and a very different experience. The Yorkshires were doughy and when one of us asked for a change was told ‘they’re always like that’! No they’re not. The roast potatoes were not crispy. The grave was not as tasty. It was still a passable roast dinner but it wasn’t a great roast dinner. I took a small plate and I asked for more meat than the one small slice I was given, the chef was rude, saying ‘you should get a bigger plate then’ I was only getting it £2 cheaper, and it was definitely such a tiny piece. I won’t be returning until I hear there’s been a change for the better!"

"I feel awful leaving a mid negative review as we've really enjoyed our visits and meals here previously, so I am sorry to the team. The service and cleanliness is brilliant, but the food really disappointed us on this occasion. I ordered the BBQ Chicken and Bacon panini and it was the most difficult thing to eat. The chicken was bland and incredibly chewy, not sliced or diced just what felt like a whole chicken breast crammed into one panini. The bacon was thick and equally as chewy. The BBQ was nice but there wasn't much in the panini to enjoy. My boyfriend ordered the soup of the day Celery and Stilton with a tuna sandwich and he said his was quite nice. But on trying mine, he agreed it lacked any flavour and was too chewy to eat. I'm really, really hoping it was just a one off as we were hoping to book an evening meal in there. I wouldn't write the place off but definitely won't be ordering anything with chicken or bacon there next time!"
