"Went to the Black Bull for breakfast, waited over an hour for the food to come out, when it did most of it was cold, the poached eggs were hard boiled and the toast never turned up, even after asking twice for it. I felt sorry for the waiting staff as they were having to take the flack for everything. This is the second time we have been for breakfast and the second time we have had to wait a long time for the food to arrive, thought it might be a one off. They blamed it on one of the chefs not turning up, as they did last time we went. They took the price of our coffees off but to be fair we should have just walked out and refused to pay. Won’t be going back which is a shame as it could be excellent. My advice would be if you can’t serve good quality HOT ! breakfast’s don’t bother. I’ve never written a review before but feel to strongly about it."

As ever the food on Saturday night was first class! The improved dining terrace works really well and the atmosphere was great too. Well done to Malcolm, Michael and the team. You have really turned The Black Bull into a wonderful venue. Voir le carte

I decided to stop in for breakfast over the weekend after being extremely impressed during a previous visit. The food, service, and coffee were all excellent, so I decided to come back the next day for a Sunday roast. The lamb and chicken were absolutely delicious, and we both enjoyed an amazing apple crumble for dessert. Overall, I couldn't find anything to fault with this experience. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. I would give this restaurant five stars.

We made a reservation for Sunday lunch on Wednesday, but they were only able to accommodate us at noon due to our party of 7, which was fine as we had young children aged six and two. The staff greeted us warmly, were very accommodating, and attentive. The atmosphere was comfortable and friendly, and it was our first visit so we weren't sure what to expect. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked, and well presented. We were celebrating four birthdays in our group so we brought our own cake, which the restaurant was happy to serve with plates and a sharp knife. We also enjoyed three servings of mixed ice cream with the cake. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience and we will definitely...

"We 're looking forward to trying the Pheasant again on a normal day. We went on Boxing Day and it was pretty disastrous. Meant to be a treat but it certainly wasn 't. Starters were nice, no cooking involved apart from the pesto. Then the mains. The beef was grey, not pink as I was told it would be but it was tender. The roast potatoes tasted a bit old but there were plenty. The Chantenay carrots were very soft. The Savoy cabbage was perfect but the portion was tiny. The gravy was nice but we got a different variety when we asked for more. The Yorkshire pudding was the main disaster; it seemed old, and very hard to the point of shattering. Desserts. The sticky toffee pudding was fine although the serving of sauce was very mean. The clotted cream with it is, in my opinion, the best way to serve this pudding, it 's a relief from all the sweetness. The apple crumble was terrible; it came in a bowl with the custard already in it with the pudding. The apple was sour and the crumble was squidgy stodge. The service was fine although some staff not yet fully professional. We would have expected a welcoming hello and goodbye but that didn 't happen. Our overall feeling was that there was serious penny pinching going on with the mains and desserts but this is a very bad idea when you are judged on your last meal but we do intend to try again because it 's such a wonderful building and we 've had many good experiences in The Pheasant, perhaps before the present owners, we 're not really sure."
