"I have lunch in small talk frequently and I’m used to it being busy . Today was no exception . However the attitude of the waitering staff has definitely gone down hill . Firstly when asked to stand out side we stood on the apparently) wrong side and my partner and I were ordered like cattle to stand on the other side . We dutifully stood for 10 mins waiting for a table . Soon the window table became available and my partner asked if we could sit here . At this point a part of 3 or 4 had arrived and my partner was rudely told ‘no you can wait for a table that sits 2 to become available’ The larger party were then taken before us and we were left to stand outside . Now I know small talk and I know just how small the ‘small’ 2 seater tables are . My partner is a large guy larger people are more comfortable at larger tables ! Anyway at this point we felt rather annoyed and choose to leave . I do understand that establishments want to maximise their profits and have maximum numbers per tables however if his doesn’t give them cart blanche to be rude and totally revoke a request for a table . It’s a shame that they are employing staff with these attitudes as the food is always first class ."

Welcoming atmosphere, very friendly staff and a wonderful array of home baking. My sister and I opted for freshly baked scones with our coffee. Delicious. Also some lovely gifts available for purchase adorning the walls. I can highly recommend the fresh eggs for sale at a very competitive price. It was my second visit to this tearoom and will not be my last. Voir le carte

Went here for lunch today with a friend and what a lovely place. Much bigger on the inside than appears from outside, beautifully decorated with lots of nice gifts for sale as well. Good menu selection and food was delicious. Cake selection is amazing and of course had to take some away for later ! Was lovely and cosy inside, very busy and staff were very friendly would definitely return.

I believe Small Talk is a hidden gem of a café. The cakes are absolutely delicious and the meals are also very tasty. The specials are always unique and provide a good opportunity to try something new. The service is consistently excellent. I would highly recommend this café when visiting Irvine harbour. We ordered a cake for my grandmother's birthday and it was amazing - the entire family loved it!

"We were a party of 5, on a cold, very wet Saturday evening, coldest so far I would say! We drew up and saw a young family of 3 sitting with jackets on in the conservatory area, we were a bit concerned! We took a...seat at the back of the conservatory which proved to be a big mistake! There was a terrible draught coming from behind me, I did mention it and was told it was 27c at the middle of the room, but not where we were sitting!! I mentioned it a few times and sat with my shawl scarf on throughout! I pulled down the window blinds hoping that would help, nope!! We ordered our food, I asked about a vegetarian option for my husband, our waitress did say he could a veggie option on the curry and the tempura or risotto, which was helpful! I had to ask what was the soup of the day and also the pate!! I did feel that maybe in this day and age there should have been a small dedicated vegetarian area on the menu, but that’s just my opinion! 3 of our party had starters which were great, Cullen skink, scallops and langoustine tempura, Main courses arrived, 3 fish and chips, one lemon soul and one veggie tempura, all were excellent except for the veggie tempura which was large shards of onion and carrot in an albeit lovely batter, but not all vegetarians like huge chunks of vegetables! 4 of our party had a sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream, which was plentiful! Overall we had a pleasant meal, little or no atmosphere though, one of the younger waitresses (white shirt, black skirt) was friendly and more talkative, the waitress (dressed all in black)who served us was, we all felt a little disinterested and lacked any empathy with the guests! We asked for our bill, the youngest waitress came with the card machine and felt how cold it was only then did she check the windows to find there was one opened, hence the draught, which spoiled our visit because we were felling it cold!! We paid the bill and left a tip on the plate, no one came to say thank you for you custom, or have a nice evening, nothing!! All in all it was pretty inhospitable! Value you for money, it was good for the standard of the food!"
