"Was in Portaferry for a few days over the bank holiday and we planned ahead by booking a table for 6pm. Arrived and was told table wasn't ready and had to wait another 15 minutes which was fine. When we eventually got seated, no drink...order was taken nor was any menus provided. We were left unattended for about 20 minutes before we managed to flag a waiter down. It was 7.30 before we got our starters. They were okay I got the seafood chowder which was more like a stew as there wasn't much liquid in it, but the wheaten bread was not home made, nor was it fresh. We had ordered 3 kids meals to come with our starters but they sent the wrong thing out. Everyone else seemed to be happy/content with what they ordered. We didn't get our mains until 8.30 again most were happy with the food (I got the beef and bird sizzler pepper sauce was very nice) by the time we got the bill and paid it was almost 9.30 3.5 hours after the table booking which is a ridiculous amount of time to be spending in a restaurant (with kids might I add) regardless of how busy they may have been. Lastly, I found the set up of having to pay for alcohol soft drinks there and then instead of adding it to the food bill. Meant you had to get specific staff for your drinks, which was a bit of a pain. Overall the experience was hit and miss"

My friend and I booked the Crows Nest (private dining) for our meal and it was really enjoyable. Great choice on set menu of £30pp and the portions were very generous. Staff couldn't have been friendlier or professional re covid guidelines. Would definitely recommend and...will be returning.

superb! we dined on the upper (3). etage, with a stunning sunset view of the strangford narrows and portaferry marina. the service was attentive, hospitable and cheerful. the eating was quite delicious various mosquitoes, baked mushrooms and ripening to begin, followed by burger, steak sandwich and sea eating platter; all beautifully presented and delicious. the bill at the end was not painful over £20/head without drinks. overall excellent we will definitely be back.

A friend and I decided to go for dinner at the Salthouse while we stayed in Portaferry last weekend. We saw on their Facebook page about the crows nest option to dine privately on the top floor with a view of the bayand decided to...try it. The staff were incredibly helpful and polite, and the food was amazing. It was a set menu and not only was the food delicious but the portions were huge and it was amazing value. Even though we were dining alone on the top floor the staff were very prompt with orders and food arrival and also made sure to check on us regularly so we didn't feel stranded. Would highly recommend.

a hidden gem! to eat the first time on Sunday in the salthouse restaurant and it will certainly not be my last time to visit. from an initially warm and friendly reception by staff ali, the family friendly atmosphere and attentive service was followed by amazing fresh...and delicious seafood. the drive of belfast was 100% worth for the prawn and cod mornay, chef colm has a gift, with his personal together. I couldn't mistake them, the price-performance ratio made me a double take when I got the bill used to spend almost twice the amount for the equivalent in belfast. to finish our trip, ali could show us in the best beauty spots to leave our delicious food. can not wait to try what the salth...

"We have eaten in Grace Neill many times the food has always been very good and we enjoy the live music. Tonight we booked a table for 4 in the restaurant for dinner and enjoyed lovely starters and main courses. The problem arose when we realised that the table was flooded with water, my husband’s trousers were soaking and my dress could have been rung out. We drew this to the attention of the waitress who went and got the manageress. We suggested that the ice bucket was leaking. The manageress said this was unlikely, held it up in the air and then admitted that it was in deed leaking. She offered me some ‘blue towels’ to dry my dress off and when I declined she offered to take me ‘into the disabled toilet’, which I found rather bizarre and also declined. When the bill came £191) no gesture had been made to compensate for soaking our attire. I took the bill to the girls at the till and asked them to have another look at it, in light of our soaking clothes. The manageress returned to the table, with a new bill, having deducted an amount by way of compensation, for which we were grateful, but then she proceeded to comment that I had been rude to staff. Ironically, we found this comment rather rude in itself and also totally unnecessary. Having admitted that our dining experience was not perhaps 100%, it was rather counter productive to then claim we had been rude. It also further exacerbated our dissatisfaction. A disappointing end to what should have been another lovely meal in our local pub. Perhaps some management training in customer service would be useful."
