"We went Sunday 2nd July for a roast dinner. We were taking my mother out for lunch. Our meals arrived and my husband and I immediately sent them back as they were cold and the potatoes were rotten. My mum said hers was fine as she didn’t want to complain but I could see that hers was cold too and the potatoes were covered with black spots, she was being polite as it was our treat. When ours returned, it seemed the exact same meal, still cold and still with rotten potatoes. I was told they’d run out of Yorkshire puddings but 5 minutes later a table opposite had Yorkshire puddings ! I could not eat mine, I complained to the manager and she tried to defend that there was nothing wrong with the potatoes (I will upload a photo if possible) Honestly it was disgusting. The waitress let slip that the chef had walked out! There was also an event going on. We paid but felt aggrieved and complained via email but did not get any response. We would still like our money back! At 18 pound for a main, I feel it was dealt with very badly. We spent 40 pound on drinks so all would have not been lost if they’d refunded our food. We all went home to eat. Awful!"

Excellent for an over night stay, comfortable beds, clean facilities and friendly staff. Only comment for us was the time we had to wait for breakfast to be cooked. 45 mins from sitting down to getting food from kitchen. This could probably be quicker with a bit of thought and planning.

The food arrived cold and the potatoes were off, we complained and they took it away and it looked like they brought back the same food and it was still cold. I complained that the potatoes were off (we have a picture of a disgusting one) but the manager proceeded to argue with me that they were fine. It was awful.

We had an evening meal here and it was absolutely fantastic. Beautiful food, and the service was great! Only thing was that the steak didn’t come with any sauce like peppercorn etc, but it did come with mushroom ketchup which was lovely but that’s not a big thing for us! We’ll definitely come back if we’re ever in the area Voir le carte

We arrived at 1.45 and there was a private party occupying the entire pub. We asked if we were able to check in and were told in no uncertain terms check in was three pm. The manager was extremely rude. We purchased a drink and found a corner to sit in, there was no WiFi or phone signal. After overhearing one of the party guests saying “we’re leaving soon as this will get messy later” we decided to forgo our stay.

We are currently staying here as mature couple with our young flatcoated retriever for three nights . The room is outstanding , the breakfast is of great quality , and we knew the Crown was on,y offering a limited menu as waiting for a new chef , but we enjoyed our fresh cooked fish and chips , minted crushed peas and home made tartare sauce on our first evening . Great news that a new chef is now engaged . We will return .

Dreadful breakfast experience. Slow to serve and we only asked for tea and American pancakes. Took ages to even get the tea and the pancakes eventually arrived but they were dry and rubbery like from a packet. Had to request maple syrup to go with them. No orange juice and the toast/cereals table was empty and clearly not being replenished for 9.00am breakfast guests. Poor service. Left to get a proper breakfast on our travels. Room was fine however. Voir le carte

We had a lovely relaxing stay. My Mother especially liked staying in the cottage room, although she could have done with a step to reach the wardrobe hanger! Breakfast was delicious. One of the best we have had. Love the coffee!!! Staff were lovely, welcoming, friendly and helpful. Drinks in the bar were great with a good choice. The beds were very comfortable. plenty of parking. We will hopefully be returning in the future. It is also handy for a number of places, i.e. Ludlow, Leominster, Kidderminster etc.

Together with a few friends we thought we’d take the plunge and try The Hopton Crown’s Burn night celebration. A three course meal with a whiskey. I have to admit that the haggis , neaps and tatties aren’t my usual go to food. But wow what a meal. I ordered the veggie option it was stunning. Soup was creamy and delicious. The main course was rich and very very tasty. The dessert was perfect sweet and a little tart with the fruit. Everyone who ate thoroughly enjoyed their meal and in fact some three days later still talking about it. The whiskey connoisseurs would probably have frowned at the tipple served. Whiskey and Cointreau. As most of us weren’t huge whiskey drinkers this suited us well...

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
