"My family dined at a table outside in front of the restaurant. Our table was assigned a number, so when we placed our order at the counter, they knew where to bring our food. Two of us shared the mackerel and leek quiche and the classic cullen skink meals. We enjoyed drinks and the beautiful view as we waited for our food. The quiche arrived at room temperature, but when I asked a server about it, she explained that was how it was served. She kindly offered to heat it up for me, which I appreciated. The salad was fresh and tasty, accompanied by a side of creamy coleslaw and chips (similar to French fries). The chips were crispy and delicious. The cullen skink was like a rich potato soup with thin slices of potato, leeks, and smoked haddock. It was served with bread and butter. While nothing stood out as exceptional, everyone in my party enjoyed their meals. The staff was friendly and efficient, and we had a lovely evening in a charming small town in Scotland."

"Lovely restaurant with great views across the port. We enjoyed a beautiful meal on a Sunday evening. Food was very well presented on contemporary plates and the staff were excellent, both polite and helpful. Extensive menu. The menu was printed in a decent sized font which was impressive! Only wish more restaurants would consider that small font menus are difficult to read in low light. We were particularly impressed by how the wine list was presented with photos of the bottles. Highly recommended!"

"Sorry to say, but the whole place lacks of LTC!!! Made a reservation of a doublet and we got an appartment in the basement; damped and not very welcoming. The food the same..it is a pity because of the fantastic location. Work at the shop!! Rooms: Not cosy and lacks ltc. Food drinks: The restaurant says it is a fish restaurant;.only mossels and seabream, furthermore lots of hamburgers, curries and pasta. It is a pitty. Rooms: 2"

"We ate out in the Mount Stewart on two evenings during our week in Portpatrick. Food, staff and the atmosphere in the Mount Stewart were great. There is a lovely menu with lots of choices and the food was cooked and presented to a high standard. The staff were all friendly and helpful with a special mention to our waitress, Lindsay(spelling? who was very helpful and attentive throughout the evening."

"My wife found this when looking for a place for us to spend our wedding anniversary. It sounded good on paper. It was a long and tedious drive for us though and I wasn’t sure it was worth it. I was totally wrong! This place is superb and well worth any drive! The setting is great-it has its own beach and there is a small patio where you can sit and there is a heater there too if you need it. There’s a nice lawn in front of the hotel too where those with dogs took them for a walk. The rooms are all different and all well appointed with their own en suite. The costs of the rooms reflects the size of the room and not the facilities. If you are tall like me (6ft 2) I wouldn’t go for one of the rooms in the roof as the coomb ceiling is a pain. However the thing you go there for is the food and that is sublime! It is a set menu in the evening which reduces waste and helps control costs. You get 7 courses, all quite small , but at the end of the meal you are adequately fed but not full. We were there for 3 nights and had a different meal every night. All the dishes were superb but we had mushroom soup one night and it was the best soup I have ever tasted! In fact it was one of the best foods I have ever tasted! The breakfast is very good indeed and you can order whatever you like from the menu which is very comprehensive. I found that set me up for the whole day and I didn’t need a lunch. I must also mention the wine. The wine list is very comprehensive with some difficult to come by wines in it too like Chateau Musar. On 2 nights we went with the wine pairing list which I thought was very good value, especially the cheaper of the 2 lists we had every night. The hotel is a good centre for seeing things in the local area and , despite going in November we found things to occupy ourselves for the 3 days we were there. They have various themed weekends too which sound brilliant. But the hotel is so good it is worth going to anytime. We will certainly be back."
