"On holiday and decided to visit this restaurant as menu looked very inviting. Interior of the restaurant is nice, on entry we were shown to a table and given menus. We were not asked what we would like to a drink until we chose our food which is unusual. Garlic bread with cheese was nice and the calamari was ok. When my spaghetti bolognese and my daughters carbonara came I couldn’t believe the pasta was not fresh. I’m not Italian but make my own pasta at home or buy fresh from the supermarket. Fresh pasta is the least I would expect from an Italian restaurant. My husband had pan fried seabass with king prawns, neither of the fillets had crispy skin, no one wants to eat soggy fish skin. It wasn’t a disaster but I wouldn’t rate it anymore than average and the service wasn’t great, it was if they didn’t want customers on a quiet Wednesday evening."

"I never really leave feedback but feel I need to on this one We went here as was driving through Monmouth checked out the reviews and seemed positive don’t Be fooled food is tasteless full of grease and just rubbish the actual place itself has a real dirty grimy feel left most of the food and left disappointed won’t be going back. "We were staying in the local area and the restaurant had been recommended by previous guests at our cottage. As we were celebrating a birthday we made a reservation for Saturday evening via the website. This was quickly confirmed by return email, but I had...to follow up with a phone call to provide my credit card to confirm the booking. The restaurant is a converted mill with some retained original features. We were pleased to see they were pretty busy. After a warm greeting by our friendly host we were shown to our table on the upper balcony area. This was more intimate than the main restaurant. We were given a small appetiser of a prawn salad in a lettuce leaf while we browsed the menu. There was plenty to choose from and some very interesting flavour combinations. My wife chose scallops and I had a braised brisket to start, followed by pork belly for my wife and lamb two ways for me. There is a very good wine list, but we went with one of the three house reds, which was very reasonably priced and delicious. While we waited for our food we were treated to an Amuse Bouche of tomato soup. This had a lovely fresh tomato taste. We also had some delicious bread with oil and balsamic dip. The courses were very good. The scallops with samphire were perfectly cooked and had a wonderful flavour. The brisket was very tender and had some lovely spice to it. The mains were equally delicious. The pork belly had been cooked perfectly, with a lovely crackling to it. The meat just melted and it came with a very nice celeriac and apple gratin. The lamb was a sous vide rump and a shoulder. It came with minted gnocchi. The flavours were delicious. Unfortunately we had eaten so well for the first two courses we didn’t have room to try the desserts, but the looked lovely. We finished with coffee and truffles, and a Cointreau for my wife, which provided a small comedy moment when the barman came over to check what we had ordered as the waitress had ordered a coffee and poncho!! The staff were so friendly and hard working. The atmosphere was good and the food delicious. We had a wonderful evening and would recommend the Stonemill wholeheartedly. It’s a shame it’s so far away from Norwich, but if you are local or staying in the area you should definitely go."

"We visited this pub as part of our day out on the Wye. I was greeted by a really friendly young man behind the bar however that was where the good hospitality ended! We sat outside and would have loved to have ordered some food but we only had a short amount of time there. We ordered our drinks and sat outside. The landlady was extremely rude and hostile, she shouted …. yes literally shouted at us for taking a bite out of our packed sandwich. In hindsight perhaps we should have waited but we had just spent £10 on 2 drinks! She could have come over and kindly spoke to us but instead shouting at us in front of all the other customers Manners cost nothing! We watched her take a stick delivery and it is clear that she has little customer service and her very hostile attitude is “ My pub is busy and I don’t need to try and be warm and welcoming!” Shame as we won’t visit again."
