"Went for afternoon tea with my wife, using an 'experience ' voucher from a well known site, costing £35.99 absolute disaster! The description said 'sit down in the sophisticated dining room and tuck into a section of finger sandwiches, tantalising cakes, pastries, macarons and scones with clotted cream and jam. You won 't want this afternoon to end! ' Trust me, we could not get out of their quick enough and go and find somewhere to get something to eat. The sophisticated dining room was a large, cold room with only a couple of other diners, sticky wooden tables, with no table cloths, just a flimsy paper napkin and a knife and fork. We ordered a coffee and a tea, which came in the smallest teapot, I have ever seen. Later in the meal, when we asked for another drink, we were told that was extra and were charged another £5.70. The food was nothing like as described or pictured on the website. A sad looking selection of sandwiches four quarters each of thin sliced bread one containing a very small piece of processed ham, a second mashed up egg, third was some sort of fish, not sure if it was salmon or tuna; and finally some sort of green leaf with something wet on top it looked like the sandwich had been made days earlier and then sat upon! No pastries or macarons but the two scones with clotted cream and two little pots of jam were OK, however the remaining small cakes were dreadful, none of them were fresh there were two eclairs that were inedible, either the cream or chocolate was off and they were very dry; two little red velvet cakes, which again were dry and horrible; and finally two small pieces of carrot cake that were the least objectionable but again very dry. When we told the waitress the eclairs, she said she would tell the chef but no offer of an alternative. True, it was an unforgettable experience, but not in the way we had expected! We have had afternoon teas in top hotels, pubs, cafes and well known garden centres and nothing came close to being as bad as this meal. Needless to say we will never return and would strongly advise caution if anyone is thinking of going here."

Had a voucher for the afternoon tea sadly we were very disappointed. Won’t be going again. Asked for a box to take home the scones we hadn’t eaten and were told we can wrap them in foil but haven’t anything to put the cream but did give us a small butter pat. It was also very cold so much so husband didn’t take his coat off!

On the whole very poor. When I phoned to book a table for lunch they could only fit us in at a certain time. On arrival we were the only ones in the large restaurant . We ordered sandwiches and chips. The sandwiches were dry drab. The chips were skinny fries and cold. The dessert of sticky toffee pudding was cold lacked flavour . The staff were polite friendly. On the whole 2 /10 .

We went for afternoon tea…..from start to finish we didn’t have a good experience here! Dark gloomy room and only 1 table with 2 chairs and a bench with cushions! The tea was so weak and wasn’t very hot! The array of sandwiches and cakes weren’t presented very well, seemed to have just been thrown on too the plates! All in all very expensive for what we got! Wouldn’t go there again! The girl who served us was very pleasant and wasn’t to blame! Voir le carte

I had booked an afternoon tea as a special treat for my friend's birthday, based on a previous visit several years ago where the experience had been very good. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed and embarrassed by my visit today. The afternoon tea was served in the back bar, not in the restaurant, and it was without a doubt the worst I have ever had. The sandwiches were decent, but the scones were warm yet dry and heavy, and the cakes were awful - dense and heavy. I would not recommend this place, as there are other establishments that offer better quality and value for a lower price. I will not be returning, as this experience was simply awful.

My partner and I dined at this restaurant while staying at the hotel. We were pleased to see that the Food Standards Agency rating has improved to 4. Although our meals were tasty, there were a few minor issues that could be improved with more care and attention (such as slightly overcooked fish and grapes that were past their best). Overall, the meal was satisfactory, but with a little extra effort, it could have been rated as 'Very Good'. The only disappointment was the Gambas Pil Pil starter, which was more like prawns in a spicy sweet and sour sauce rather than the traditional dish. However, the staff handled the issue well and provided excellent customer service.

Sad, sad and a rip off . £79 a head paid in advance for a Christmas Day lunch in warm and happy surroundings.. Dark, dismal and COLD . One member of the serving staff managed a smile and was pleasant... I was there with two of my sons they were saving me from cooking yet another Christmas lunch. So my anticipation was great....the boys enjoyed their beef when it eventually arrived my fish was ok but a spud would not have gone amiss...I asked for bread to go with my starter...it eventually arrived...maybe they have a thing about bread and spuds...and as it turned or tartare sauce to go with my fish...nah never heard of it. Pudding which had been preordered and paid for never arrived at all .C... Voir le carte

My girlfriend had made a reservation at your restaurant for a surprise birthday meal for me. She had hoped for a high-end dining experience in a beautiful setting, but unfortunately, our experience was quite the opposite. It was the first time we had to honestly say that our meal was "disgusting" when asked if we had enjoyed it. To make matters worse, we were served with dirty wine glasses, my starter was incorrect, and we had to switch tables due to a wobbly one. Despite expressing our dissatisfaction to the waitress, no one came to address our concerns, leading us to leave. The waitress then brought over our bill, mentioning that the main course had not been charged by the maître d’, which...

Wonderful location for a birthday celebration, there were 9 of us booked in with a two course Sunday lunch voucher and glass of wine. We waited in the bar until our table was ready and we were taken to our table; almost immediately we were asked what meat we would like. We went to ask if the two courses were starters and mains or mains and desserts the server wasn’t sure but explained that we could have our starter after our main as he had taken our order?? I explained that we would like our starter before the main and he said he would give us 5 minutes and come and take our starter order. Unfortunately this didn’t happen and our main meal came out first! Sunday lunch was beautiful although...
