Just popped in for a quick meal and beer and was so impressed with everything. Great home cooked food and prompt service.

After visiting last year, we knew we had to come back again this time. And we were not disappointed. The bar prices were great value, the food was reasonably priced and delicious, and we loved the cozy beer garden. Even though the restaurant was busy and had limited staff, the service was attentive and helpful. We will definitely make a point to visit again when we are back in town.

The rear garden is very attractive. The stall were fine but showed no interest in whether our food was of an acceptable standard. The helpings are large. The fish and chips were apparently fine. The lamb tagine wasn't. I didn't expect it to have been made in a tagine but I reasonably expected it to have been made in the style of a tagine and with the essential tagine ingredients. It wasn't. It was bland, as in totally. For £10.95 a seriously poor meal.

Because of the current lockdown restrictions, there were no dining options available in Moffat, so we opted for fish and chips instead. As someone who works in a fish and chip shop, I have high standards. The meal was just okay, nothing special. Everything was freshly cooked to order, the chips were good, and the portion of fish was large for a small serving. However, the batter was dull and greasy, lacking flavor. I'm grateful that I didn't spend more than five pounds on it.

Our dining experience was very disappointing and unpleasant. The lack of a warm welcome, friendly staff, and the excessive use of profanity by other diners made for a less than enjoyable meal. The server who seated us seemed uninterested in our experience, providing no welcoming gestures or conversation. The atmosphere in the bar was disrupted by the constant swearing at the neighboring table. Despite trying to enjoy my scampi, which was served with a minimal amount of chips and peas, the negative atmosphere was hard to ignore. On a positive note, my dining companion enjoyed their fish and chips. We left promptly as we did not want to subject ourselves to more poor language, and received no...

Had a wee trip over to moffat for a couple of nights staying on the camping and caravanning club site with the motorhome. Only live 50 miles away but great to get out and about after the lockdown and back to a lovely town I usually visit once a month. The Balmoral has always been a favourite and they have clearly made the best they can in this current situation to accommodate everyone with social distancing inside and out. My daughter was desperate to have the kids meal nuggets again, and nuggets is way under estimating them as they are chicken inner fillets (5) in lovely crisp non greasy batter with chips and peas or beans if wanted only £5 full price. She had them both days of the visit. I...

We were staying in one of this hotel’s lovely cottages and as we always do after a long jouney had booked to eat in the restaurant on the night of our arrival. After this one meal we booked to eat for another 3 nights of our stay. All staff fully masked, sanitiser and Track and Trace in place. Tables well spaced apart. We felt safe and comfortable.I think it would be fair to say that The Balmoral serves a pub grub type of cuisine and does it very well indeed.Over our 4 nights we sampled lasagne, a huge cheese burger, roast beef, roast pork and a chilli con carne. All were just delicious, portions were generous, and good value.Desserts of cheesecake, ice cream and an outstanding sticky toffee...

"My wife found this when looking for a place for us to spend our wedding anniversary. It sounded good on paper. It was a long and tedious drive for us though and I wasn’t sure it was worth it. I was totally wrong! This place is superb and well worth any drive! The setting is great-it has its own beach and there is a small patio where you can sit and there is a heater there too if you need it. There’s a nice lawn in front of the hotel too where those with dogs took them for a walk. The rooms are all different and all well appointed with their own en suite. The costs of the rooms reflects the size of the room and not the facilities. If you are tall like me (6ft 2) I wouldn’t go for one of the rooms in the roof as the coomb ceiling is a pain. However the thing you go there for is the food and that is sublime! It is a set menu in the evening which reduces waste and helps control costs. You get 7 courses, all quite small , but at the end of the meal you are adequately fed but not full. We were there for 3 nights and had a different meal every night. All the dishes were superb but we had mushroom soup one night and it was the best soup I have ever tasted! In fact it was one of the best foods I have ever tasted! The breakfast is very good indeed and you can order whatever you like from the menu which is very comprehensive. I found that set me up for the whole day and I didn’t need a lunch. I must also mention the wine. The wine list is very comprehensive with some difficult to come by wines in it too like Chateau Musar. On 2 nights we went with the wine pairing list which I thought was very good value, especially the cheaper of the 2 lists we had every night. The hotel is a good centre for seeing things in the local area and , despite going in November we found things to occupy ourselves for the 3 days we were there. They have various themed weekends too which sound brilliant. But the hotel is so good it is worth going to anytime. We will certainly be back."
